can durable touchscreens be made?

I'm thinking of a color lcd that's touch-sensitive like a pda screen, yet durable and relatively unscratchable like a cell phone screen. is this possible?

Most tablet PCs are not true touch screen as they use electromagnetics for the "touch screen" ability. They do this so you can write with the sylus with your arm on the screen and it will only pick up the stylus.
