Bought this system last year from hot deals xps420 hot deal
This was my first Pre-Built system, used to build my own. Its almost a year now (bought it 01/2008) and I need a video card update. My current 8800gt is struggling with Crysis 20fps 1440x900 high details. I expected this that is why I waited so long before I bought the game.
Quick Specs
Dell XPS 420 desktop
Intel Core 2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)
* Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Digital Cable Support
* 3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs
* 512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT
* 500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
* Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM)
*Xi-FI Soundcard
*Winfast TV tuner
*Dell 24 flat panel Native resolution 1920X1200
I know it can handle a 260 core 216 without a PSU upgrade but wanted a faster card.
The Mobo is not SLI capable
Question 1
Can the dell 420watt PSU handle a 280 or a 4870 1gb
Question 2
Will the 280 or 4870 fit in this case
Question 3
Is the PSU proprietary or can I just grab 600watt PSU in newegg and be sure it will fit.
I know I am not the only one who got into this hot deal and was wondering how the other members upgraded there Video card and PSU.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Peace
