I don't think congress could give a state away, and I don't think Texas would be all that upset about leaving.I'd certainly consider booting Texas back to Mexico.
I don't think congress could give a state away, and I don't think Texas would be all that upset about leaving.
I guess we could. We could just build Trump's wall around the state...keep their particular brand of crazy contained...
I guess we could.
I was just in Texas a week ago, I like it. Very polite people, pretty good BBQ. No one cares if your wearing a mask or not, though the majority seem to wear them inside. I could live there without any trouble adjusting.
If that's what they really want, it's fine with me.There has been discussion about " The Great Republic of Tex-ass" seceding from the United States for decades...I say, Let them.
Doesn't work that way. If they go they take their toys with them.^^ As long we keep the oil and other assets.
It's not what they really want. Also, if you think Brexit has been bad for the UK so far that's just a small taste of the catastrophe waiting for Texas if they tried to go their own way.If that's what they really want, it's fine with me.
Like I said, if that's what they want it's fine with me. They make the choice, they live with the consequences. This is what majority rule is all about, it's democracy. It's not what they really want. Also, if you think Brexit has been bad for the UK so far that's just a small taste of the catastrophe waiting for Texas if they tried to go their own way.
Texas is one of the few red states that is a net federal taxpayer so they aren't dependent on the rest of the country the way most conservative areas are, but much like the UK their economy is deeply interwoven into the rest of the US and the sudden appearance of a customs border would wreck havoc.
Well I have to say I’m happy to see conservatives once again embracing majority rule, haha. Do you think we can get it to apply to any state legislatures, the federal congress, or the presidency?Like I said, if that's what they want it's fine with me. They make the choice, they live with the consequences. This is what majority rule is all about, it's democracy.
THEIR toys...sure. reroute all the pipelines going INTO Tex-ass...shut off all coming out.Doesn't work that way. If they go they take their toys with them.
Really? What is the basis of this? No, it will require constitutional amendment approved by 2/3 of Both Congress/Senate and 2/3 of the states.
don't let the door hit them on the way outI don't think congress could give a state away, and I don't think Texas would be all that upset about leaving.
Let them have their natural gas, what do we want it for?^^ As long we keep the oil and other assets.
Ok? What do you want me to say? You were the one who suggested a wall, do you want Texas to be part of the union or not?THEIR toys...sure. reroute all the pipelines going INTO Tex-ass...shut off all coming out.
I'd wager Loozeeyana and Alabama wouldn't bitch about more refinery jobs.
Remove ALL federal property. not real estate, obviously...that would have to be sold...or destroyed. That means all US military personnel and equipment...which would wipe out all thoae sweet paying gubmint jobs for civilians, as well as the assorted civilian jobs that depend on military bases for their survival.
The BIGGEST loss would be the Johnson Space Center...but that too could be relocated.
I'm fine with majority rule, within the confines of the constitution. And before you jump all over that, recall that not many years ago, California, the bastion of liberal policies, voted to ban gay marriage. What mechanism prevented that from happening?Well I have to say I’m happy to see conservatives once again embracing majority rule, haha. Do you think we can get it to apply to any state legislatures, the federal congress, or the presidency?
While Texas isn’t permitted to choose if it leaves or not I think Congress should grant the request of states that wish to secede so long as that request comes as part of a popular referendum and not a function of the state legislatures. (After all, in many states the legislatures do not represent the will of the majority)
This article was correct in 2017 and it's correct now. Time for the blue states to leave the Union.

LOL no...just no. Could you imagine the cluster fuck that would ensue if they actually had this power? Especially given todays partisan political climate. Can congress vote to expel states?
