I recently purchased a CTO HP dv9700 and a Dell 2408wfp. I decided to use HDMI as my main output to the monitor. For the first week I ran into nothing but problems after installing the drivers. the monitor would change resolution (although from 1900X1200 to 1900X1080) and when it woke up from sleep or when I turned it on, the monitor would simply not work. Now everything works perfectly and I didn't do anything new. How is this possible?

Just like any new relationship, your computer and monitor had to have a few dates to get to know each other. Now that they have gotten to know each other, they're not afraid of doing it with the lights on. That's why everything works now.

Whatever it is it's very convenient. I was afraid HDMI may have been too bleeding edge for this setup but it works nicely. BTW, this monitor is excellent. But it's default brightness is too damn bright. Late at night, I feel like I'm looking directly at the sun. I had to turn it way down.

Learning from each other is fine. It's self-awareness that presents a problem.
