Can cdrw and dvd co-exist on same ide channel?

I'm building a new computer and want to have 1 hd 1 cdrw and dvd rom. If there is slowdown from 2 cd's on same channel should i go scsi, if i do would i need ultra or ultra 160? I am committing moderate money to this. I could afford the scsi. I am building amd so i know i will have to play or tweak a little. any help or opinions appreciated. mark marked@erols.com

I originally had my DVD and CD-RW on the same channel, I have since put the DVD on the HD's channel. The only difference is Nero doesn't bug me anymore 🙂 But if you're willing to pay for SCSI, I say go for it.

You shouldn't have any problems with them on the same IDE channel. Just make sure you CD-RW is master and your DVD is slave.

if you are going to do CD copying from your dvdrom drive to your cdrw, it would be better to have the two drives on separate channels.

I have my CD-RW Master and My DVD slave on one IDE and it works fine, some have problems but i dont. My setup forced me to have both on one and it turned out to work quite well.

that arrangement shouldn't be contraindicated though you may have buffer underruns if you try copying cd to cd. you can always make a hard disk image first though to prevent buffer underruns.

Ive got em both on the same channel, DVD master and cdrw slave, works fine. BUT, to this day ive never actually burned cd-cd on the fly, cause im usually always burning something which is already on my hard drive. Hmm, time to go do some testing...after i finally make a start on studying for my exam tomorrow:frown:😕

I have my CDRW and my DVD drive on the same channel as well with no problems. I can burn at 10X flawlessly. My CDRW is an HP 9350i and my DVD is a Toshiba SD-M1202. The CDRW is master and the DVD is the slave.
