Can Cat5 and Cat5e cables be used together via an RJ45 coupler

I have a 50ft cable that says Cat5 Patch cable on it. I use an RJ45 coupler (double-sided connector or coupler) and a 10-15ft cable to extend the 50 ft cable to reach a pc in our house.

coupler looks like this:

I have to replace the 10-15ft cable because the clips on both ends are broken. It won't stay attached to the one end of the RJ45 double sided connector. Can I replace it with a Cat5e cable?

Should work just fine. Cat5e and Cat5 cables are both wired the same way, meaning Cat5e is completely backward compatiple with it's slower Cat5 predecessor. As long as you're still going to be running a maximum of 10/100, there should be no problem.

More info HERE. :)
