Can bass affect or harm a CPU ????

Subzero

Banned
The reason I ask is the setup is my bass cube next to my case and the CPU is on the side right next to the sub woofer ......

Also this sub is almost as big as my frakin tower ,so it does pump out some bass ...
I just do not want to funk up my new system...
😀

Than ks ahead of time for the help.

Fluctuating magnetic field from the speakers is bad for the monitor.

Unless the subwoofer is magnetically shielded. And believe me, if something that size is near the monitor, and is NOT magnetically shielded, you'd know it - your monitor output would start to resemble a lava lamp.

But magnetic shielding won't do a thing for the vibration. Hard drives aren't the only things that won't like vibration. Constant vibration can't be good for the heatsink-CPU contact area, especially if there's no shim. You might be looking at microfractures along the edge of the CPU core.
I'd imagine that intense vibrations could affect the stability of a rapidly spinning CD - if it starts to wobble and resonate, it'll tear itself apart inside the drive.

/me slaps everyone around with a bass 😉

<grin>

As for bass hurting your CPU. Not really. I mean I suppose if you had a really crappy clip on your HSF alot of bass might cause it to move enough to cause trouble way down the road but I really really doubt it. Or by "CPU" did you mean your whole system? (Like my 65yr old clueless aunt)

It should be fine, unless its a serious vibration, I.E you pushing on the desk or table rapidly.. It should have no effect.

I'd say don't worry about it, and if you are, move it 🙂

Bass sounds better in a corner of a room anyway.

Bass is much better in the corners of a room ... or the sub deflects the low mhz better when it's in a corner. But if you have to have it on your desk ... for whatever reason, then don't turn that thumper up too high.

High to me is having a 300w 12" Sub pounding 120db btw.

A corner may or may not make the bass "better", but it certainly should be placed on the floor(you didn't say whether it's on a desk or not, so I'mm assuming it is).

Wood or carpet?

I DJ with my computer (4 15" subs) and I've done that many times and it doesn't seem to affect my hard drive..

Shouldn't matter for Bass, but it does matter for the Satelites.

The hard disk is the most failure prone component due to excessive vibration.

However, we found before serious data threatening anomalies occurred, we had to expose the specimen to SPL's that would make humans have involuntary bowel movements! So unless your tune's are thumping until you're dumping, I wouldn't worry about it! 🙂

Wood is definately preferable but it isn't like you're gonna redo your floor just for your computer speakers...... if you do then ummmm perhaps you'd like to lay down on this sofa and tell us about your childhood 😀

What's wrong with that? 😀
I think I need a good subwoofer. Then I need to make a few friends and invite them over.😀

Post the full list somewhere! 😛

The sub might affect the hard drives if it's not magnetically shielded, I have a sub that says it shouldn't be within ~3ft of the main computer bit, due to the magnet in it.

You what i don't like. People who get the 3 piece soudn systems for their computer. Even though in this case it might soudn like an upper end one.

I say you hook the computer up to your stereo receiver and get a real system if you really want this type of sound.

As some one said. if you worry, move it. how about the other side of the desk??

shoot. I was supposed to say soemthing funny like everyone else.

how about a fish/bass joke ... done
vibrations/sex joke ... done
65 year old women joke ... done
DAMN IT. YOU GUYS LEFT ME WITH NOTHING!!!😀
