Can based-on-a-commercial 'Cavemen' TV series survive?

"So easy a caveman can do it!"

America has yet to lay eyes on ?Cavemen,? the upcoming ABC sitcom about scraggly-haired Cro-Magnons struggling to assimilate in contemporary society. Already, though, it is one of the most mocked and derided television shows in recent memory

This caveman is due to have his own show in a month. Yes, an actual TV series. He is very popular here (in case you live under a rock, or Europe and don't know who the GEICO caveman is) and thought it was worth the while to view these videos if you haven't all ready. Caveman's Crib is a new interactive site which GEICO has put together. I hope the TV series is good because I like the GEICO caveman commercials already. Here's a preview too.

If you read the article you might have missed this.

Despite all the derisive scorn, ?Cavemen? could draw robust ratings ? at least in its initial outing on Oct. 2 ? because many Homo sapiens across the nation figure to be curious. Indeed, a recent online survey found that ?Cavemen? leads all new network shows in terms of viewer buzz.

I hope its canned after the first episode. People need to see just one episode to see how crappy the idea truly is. After the series is forgotten, all those responsible for this abomination and their families should be forced into a wood chipper. Not one of those 'industrial' ones you find on the back of a tree trimming truck mind you, I'm talking about one of those household ones. The kind you can buy at a Home Depot or Lowes. This should be done with the victims in one piece of course, preferably hands then feet then arms then legs. At this point they're unconscious and unable to finish the job so one must use a shovel or other implement. That would be a satisfactory ending to the 'Caveman' debacle.

I'm waiting for the day when a new show is yanked mid-way through the first episode...

jeez, over react much?

I think it will last 6 episodes. By then the novelty will have completely worn off and it will be canned.

In the rush to dump on ?Cavemen,? it?s easy to forget that television history has featured a number of sitcoms that came into the world bearing weird, silly-sounding concepts, only to turn into surprise hits. The offbeat collection includes, among others, ?Bewitched,? ?The Munsters,? ?My Favorite Martian,? ?I Dream of Jeannie,? ?Mork & Mindy? and ?3rd Rock From the Sun.?

Maybe there?s a lesson in this. Maybe it?s better to refrain from rolling our eyes until a show actually makes it to air.

?Who would have thought that Ozzy Osbourne would make a great sitcom dad or that boat tourists stranded on an island would hold our interest for four years?? says television historian Tim Brooks, who co-wrote ?The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows.? ?Having a show with an off-the-wall concept that can be described in one line attracts immediate attention. Even if it?s negative attention, that in itself is not necessarily a bad thing.?

Did anybody actually read the article?

my prediction = cancelled before the 5th show. Hopefully

Cancelled after 1st episode if they actually even air the 1st.

That's my prediction as well. I won't be turning it on as it just looks as stupid as most other shows they spend 5 minutes planning and then go for it.

It looks like utter crap. So i won't be watching and because it's utter crap, i'm sure it'll stay on TV for a while.

It's a gimmick, and won't last for more than half a season. I doubt people will get attached to the caveman and whatever the hell it is that he does.
