I want to know if Apple Imac's are able to use any type of IDE Hard Drive. I know a guy with one and his hard drive is fried so I was wondering if I could go and buy him an IBM and swap that in for him or do I have to get a specific brand of HD or do I have to get one off Apple?

Just so ya know i dont use Apple :D

Oh yeah I have been utterly enjoying the closed minded fool called Mastertech. He reminds me of some people who are involved in religion - they fight to the death even though there is factual and proven information against their cause.

And I own an Intel system, I would have gotten an AMD system but the Thunderbirds were not around, only the coppermines so I go for the fastest at the time.

But yeah any help towards the Imac problem is much appreciated. :)

Any IDE drive will work, just make sure you have your disktools (format/partition) software before you start the swap.

Yeah I know IDE is IDE but I thought it might have been possible that you need a IDE Drive that had been Mac "enabled" with the contoller on the IDE drive having been changed or something similar. Just like the GeForce 2 MX had to be Apple enabled by having the silicon slightly changed to be compatible.
Thanx for the help :D

"Funny how macs are getting closer to becoming PCs. "

Ummm Macs using IDE drives is nothing new. On one hand some people see their hardware as becoming more and more interchangable/customizable while on the other hand the standard (Wintel...PC) OS is becoming more and more MacOS like.
