Can anything recover an older version of a document that has been saved already?

Friend accidentally cut something out of a word document and then saved and lost what she cut out. This is an emergency and I figured more people are on OT than any other forum!

EDIT: What about a document that was created but never saved and closed? She cut it apparently into a doc "doc6" and then closed it without saving it and closed/saved her original document.

Would there be a way to find a temp of this doc?

I know that word creates temp files could one of these programs open the right older version that way?

Anyone know if there is a log of office clipboard that would have her saved cut section?

If the file is stored on Windows Server 2003, then volume shadow copy. Or some word processors have version controlling so it keeps like a diff of the changes you make each time you open and close the program. She probably is not doing either, so my guess is she is screwed.

If she hasn't closed Word try copying those temp files it makes and see if you can open any of them.

Search the directory for temp documents and see if the edits are contained in one of them.

Or if she hasn't closed the document, she could always undo...

Actually, in the newer versions of Office they do have Clipboard log which keeps a history of items added to the clipboard.

If you still have Word open, hold down the Control key and then press C twice-- it will bring up the clipboard. Hopefully, the text she copied will still be in there somewhere.

There is software that can actually recover a document that was never saved. I linked it in a previous thread, but the search function is too borked to find it.

So she cut something from one document, pasted it into another and forget to save?

Why doesn't she just try CTRL + V again.

That's weird. Works fine for Cut in Word 2003.

tell her you may have thought of a solution, but you'll need to have sex with her to really clear your head about the whole thing.
