How come Canadians dislike America so much? If it wasnt for your southern neighbor, youd all be speaking German or Japanese

Canadians don't dislike Americans so much, but we sure do get razzed a lot by you folks... can't we joke too?

No. You are entitled to your opinion, but only if you are right thinking like us ;)

Love of and devotion to one's country

Am I wrong to say that the originator of this thread was in fact making a statement that did not show his love and devotion to his country(lets pretend he is an American).

Tough love. If it's true, someone has to say it.

This is a word some Americans might want to familiarize themselves with.

It seems it's perfectly acceptable for americans to make lame jokes about Canada's military and such, but heaven forbid a Canadian make fun of Americans! Nooo, these trecherous bastards must be lined up against the wall and shot!

Gimmie a fscking break.

French attempted to globalize in past centuries, so did Britain, Portugal, Spain etc. US happens to do it humanly which is not what I can say of European colonizators of 18th-20th centuries. Just be glad that it is the US who's the world power right now and not Iran or something of that sort.

Very Ture

the united states is interested in protecting its own national interests just like every other state/republic/country on this planet in the past, present, and future...they're out for their own greedy interests.. it's not good, bad, just reality.

You?d think we HUMANS could think rationally on these things. We are in this world together and I don't care where you are born you are still human. This patriotism is bred from the get go with so many things. Like root for the home team in your city or high school. Rooting for the home team requires no rational thought what so ever. I choose not to "root for the home team" that is the United States and instead root for humanity, which governments tend to undermine time and time again, including the United States on many occasions, if you don't think so it is time for you to learn your history. Not the history they teach in public schools though.

In this time when American flags are being burned around the globe and American citizens outside the countries are being targetted and killed, I didnt find that caricature funny at all.

I wonder how funny this joke would be couple days after September 11.....WHAT EXACTLY HAS CHANGED SINCE THAT MADE YOU FORGET????

My overall impression of most of the US-born Americans is that they lost the appreciation for this country and take it for granted. You havent been on other side and dont cherish what you got here.

Sometimes you just have to set down the flag a minute. If the government never gets critisized, it will never improve. One of the greatest freedoms we have as Americans is the right to critisize our government.

By the way, yes it's from the Simpsons. :)

And the all of a sudden, someone posts this.. and Oh my God!! Its the end of the world...

Feels kinda weird to be on the other end for once?

That pic is VERY accurate right now.

Case and point, whos the only group pushing as hard as they can to eliminate another group.. for no clear reason...

someone took down 2 of our towers, and took 5000 innocent lives with them. IMHO that means the rest of the world needs to go bye bye. Next question?

Oh, I don't know. I just spent an hour searching various archives and news agencies for photos that were rather commonplace a year ago, but I'll be damned if I could find a single one.

You know the ones, photos showing trucks and barges and warehouses containing thousands and thousands of tonnes of food containers or bags labeled "USA" which reaches needy populations around the world every day? Funny, though, I found lots of pictures of starving people, accompanied by articles condemning one policy or another of the US. But, not a single photo of the millions and millions of people fed by the US every day. Coincidence?

Edited typos: used one too many fingers for typing....

For not being US born u were pretty fast in picking up the stupidity of some representatives of this country. This statement always cracks me up - take a history book and read...

See Marty, Americans do make jokes about Canada and the things they find weird about the country. They also make fun of Canada's military. What they DON'T do is post flamebait threads about Canada in which they ATTACK rather than joke about your country. All it does is allow a few Canada bashers and a few American bashers to turn a thread into a flame war.

If you posted a constructive piece on WHY you think US foreign policy is overreaching or had an article that detailed your views, then a debate could ensue rather than a flamefest. You start these threads with a biased article of a quick quip or even your cartoon today. You don't stick around to give your well thought out opinion or give facts. You throw flamebait out, give it some fuel occasionally and sit back and have a big ole Marty fest over the flamewar you just created.

Why not create a thread that gives your ideas about what the US is doing wrong? Or post a link occasionally that is not inflammatory. I find the cartoon humorous, but I know that your intentions were not to create a humorous thread. You wanted to start a flame war.

BTW missing something? ;)

One of the problems of patriotism (or call is by its dirty synonym: nationalism) is that it is emotional love of one's country. Its blind and childlike. No logic is necessary, and that makes it one sided. You are with us or against us, we are always right, do not criticize us, you get what we give you, and you will like it. Now, if you add logic to the situation, you get cartoons like this one (and many of the other political cartoons out there) where something in the government is criticized. Some people get upset about it because they refuse to look at the situation and only, childishly, look at the fact that something they love is being attacked. Speech, especially speech that has the chance of offending someone, needs to be protected. Criticism is something Americans do well, just some people want to ignore the stains on their own knees.

That doesn't make it right. Being ABLE to do something doesn't mean one SHOULD do it. As for finding it offensive, that's your perogative. But being able to make and spread stuff like that is what this country is ideally all about.

I agree, why we bother to try to stop the North Korean populace from starving to death, I'll never know. And screw those Iraqis. If they get murdered for speaking out against Saddam Hussein, screw them. Just because the U.S. is able to help doesn't mean we should. The Somalians are still starving as well? Since the U.S. does not want to offend anyone, I am glad we are staying out of that country for good. India and Pakistan, well thats the fault of the British, they carved up Kashmir. Next time they are on the brink of nuclear war, let them go at it.

We dropped the A-bomb on Japan. How many think we should go bye bye?

By the way, not to lessen the events of 9-11 by any means, but 5000 is quite an exaggeration from roughly 2000. The only reason I say this is it adds to your incredibility.
