Can anything be done to fix this?

I partioned my HDD into two drives, C and D, giving 2 gigs to D drive where I put Windows XP; however, now there is very little space left and I'm worried it will run out. Can I somehow re-partition the HDD without reformatting? I have lots of space on C drive that I can offer up...

Also, when I install new programs the default directory to install is in D:\Program Files\ but I established a program files folder on my C: drive and want that to be the default install directory. How can I do this?

For the first question, you need something like Partition Magic to repartition without losing data.

For the 2nd question, I don't know how to change the default other than just changing it each time you install something when it asks you where you want it to be installed.

Partition Magic can resize partitions, it should do what you want.

One thing about Partition Magic: Even though it should be safe, you really should back up anything that's critically important, just in case.

On a CD. Partition Magic can seriously F up your partitions if something goes wrong. I would also first defrag C.

As for the other thing, Yes you can. THere's a registry entry that determines the default location of programs. I don't know what it is offhand (haven't used it for a while) but search google for registry default install or something....

Change the default application install from C:\Program Files:

If you want to change the Default application install from "C:\Program Files", use Regedt32 to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Alter the paths at: ProgramFilesDir
AND
ProgramFilesPath

You may also alter: CommonFilesDir
