Is it really that easy? Would it be a worthwhile purchase for couple college guys who want to prepare quick meals?

Get the cheap one then. I bought one for $35 about 3 years ago, used it yesterday. And the day before. It's still awesome.

They are great, just have to be careful not to overcook your food, they have a tendancy to dry everything out.

I have an older model that is one of the cheaper ones, and it works just fine. They are a pain to clean up sometimes, but grilling with them has never been easier.

This one will be just fine unless you want to grill more than two burgers at a time.

My roommates and I used it a lot during college to make sandwiches, burgers, and *gasp* steaks.

It's pretty good, I'd get one.

The only bad thing about it ... is having to clean it afterward. (Yes, you do).

even though they say you don't need to flip, i found it better to flip once because the top just wasn't heavy enough to press down on the meat.

true - it does suck there.

the GFG isn't bad but then again it's essentially frying something from both sides with a handy way to drain the fat. if you cooked things on a slanted frying pan and flipped it half way through you could get the same effect.

One of the greatest inventions of all time......equal to Edison's lightbulb!! Yeah, okay, not quite that good, but still a handy little device to have around for easy cooking! :)

Do yourself a favor, though, and spend a few more bucks, and get the model with the removeable grilling surfaces. Cleaning up the surface without being able to remove it is a PITA, and should be avoided if possible. Trust me, the ability to take those grilling surfaces out, stick 'em in a sink full of soapy water, and getting 'em squeaky clean will more than make up for the added cost.

Oh yeah, and you'll never make a more tender steak, with no preparation (other than salt & pepper) than you will with one of these. :D

I cannot vouch for any grill like this that does not have a removal grilling surface. Its just to big of a PITA to clean.

I have this one but in stainless steel. Its the best and most used item in my kitchen next to the can opener. I Highly recommend putting forth the extra few bucks for a larger size grill. I had one of the smaller ones before and while it did the job you were screwed if you ever had to cook for more than 1.
Cleaning isn't all that difficult. Just while it is still semi hot pull it up next to the sink and wipe it down real well with a wet paper towel. Only complaint is the drip trays need to be bigger. When cooking hamburgers I always have to empty it before I'm done cooking.

Yep. Had to throw mine out because it was too much of a PITA to clean. Plus it got grease all over the counter around it. Luckily I live in an apartment with a deck, so I upgraded to a propane grill.

They are easy to clean, as long as you don't leave the sh!t on there to cake on for 2 weeks.

And of course they do have ones with removable grills FTW.

I hated cleaning mine
Then somebody else who had one told me to just lay some wet paper towel in there turn it on to steam and wipe off while its still warm!!
It cleans just by wiping up now I don't even use the little plastic scraper thing anymore.

A lot of times the wife says awe its too rainy to BBQ so I remind her of the grill.
Everybody is right it cooks real fast too cause its getting heat top and bottom
Absolutely great for fast meal prep
