Before the 8 gig version was just a 2nd generation. Is the 'new' 8 gig version on par with the other versions other than the memory?

TIA

You mean the storage I assume? Memory is RAM.

I have heard it is the same guts, but I haven't seen confirmation.

That's a question I'd like answered too. And does anyone know if there's voice support for it? It sounds like they cut down on the packaged hardware this round.

According to Apple's website, the new models all include the new guts including the 8gb.

The new iPod Touch pricing is a perfect example of how Apple likes to game their customers.

Keeping the base option at 8GB while increasing it's price relative to the 32GB is a clever marketing ploy to boost their margins. With the volume of flash memory that Apple buys, I can guarantee you that the $70 difference between the 8GB and 32GB is almost pure profit. And the obscene price of the 64GB...yikes. Lube up and bend over.

$229 for a 16GB would have been a great option.

Yea, not really sure why they didn't bump the capacity of the entry level...

Pricing of all their latest stuff is off the charts.

I'm sure Apple could put their logo on a brick and people would pay $399 for it.

This has been the case since day 1. Remember iPod Touch 1.0?

$299 - 8gb
$399 - 16gb
$499 - 32gb

Lulz.

Or the old iPod (3rd gen)

10GB - $299
15gb - $399
30gb - $499

BTW I just got a 400x CF 16gb card for $60 2 months ago. I just ordered a 600x 32gb card for $190 today. But I'm sure there's no need for 600x speeds in an iPod Touch. Heh. This stuff should be dirt cheap to them.
