Can anyone tell me how to be smarter?

I am in college right now and I want to know how to become smarter at my studies.

I am devoting at least 40 hours a week studying but I also want to know how to improve my reading comprehension, memorization and just brain power in general without taking any drugs.

Thank you smart people of Anandtech!

Read more. Not fiction, and not the kind of pop self-help drivel, but books that make you think, and that can teach you *how* to think, not *what* to think.

The rest of it is the same. You want new ways of approaching things - new ways of learning and processing information, new ways of applying knowledge, etc.

And please, for the love of God take a critical thinking course. It's so important but so often neglected these days.

I have no idea. My memorization and reading comprehension are awful. I majored in an engineering major which allowed me to remember only a few basic facts and then use logical reasoning to help remember anything else. I'm very good at that.

"you answered A-11 B-2 C-3
based on this info you are probably
a Visual
learner."
Shocking. Shocking, I tells ya!

And people think it's weird when I don't know my age off the top of my head. Every year I'd have to remember a new number. But if I just remember my birth date, which is a piece of static data, I can recalculate my current age on the fly, as-needed. 😀

That frees up loads of extra memory, allowing me to remember many snippets of meaningless and pedantic trivia.

Become smarter or have higher gpa?
As for reading comprehension perhaps those stupid reading programs that they use to advertise on tv would help.
