Can anyone solve my problem? (IBM HD / ATX Motherboard)

I just bought a IBM DTLA-307045 HD (46g,7200rpm) and I am placing it on my shopss motherboard (6ABX2V ATX form factor). For some reason the only way I can get my bios to recognize the HD is if the HD is set to "32gb Clip". This results in the HD's space being depleted to only 32 g :( my guess is that the motherboard cannot support over 32 gig? Can anyone confirm this and perhaps give me a solution to boot?(no pun intended) Your help is much appreciated...and needed

Thanks for responding. It has come to the point that I am thinking that was what I should have done from the start. My only reason for not doing so is that it is one operation that I have no idea how to complete... I apoligize for my ignorance, it has never come up before. Might someone be willing to point me in the right direction?
thanks in advance

BIOS upgrade is pretty simple, but has to be done exactly right or trouble can occur. Best to run it from a simple DOS boot floppy. The motherboard mfg's web site generally has the BIOS updates, the flash program that rewrites the BIOS, and instructions.

Ok this happened to me with a 60gig maxtor. Your motherboard can not recognize the number of cylinders in that drive. With the maxtor you add an extra jumper and it is called the cylinder limitation jumper. This will at first result in the drive reading smaller. Then in maxtors case, you run the maxblast disk that comes with it and you install a little maxblast utility. In actuality what is happening is an extra 13 string or character set is being added to the master boot record and that allows the drive to be seen fully by bios. In IBM's case I am not sure if they have a resolution to the same isue but most likely they do. The bios flash Might fix the prob and might not. And although the procedure is simple there is some risk involved

thanks for your help, its much appreciated. I'll tell you if the Bios flash works. If doesn't you may not have to hear from me for a while! ;) thanks again

/edit In reflection I thought I would ask about how much of a problem can I be expecting in case things do go haywire? Loss of motherboard? car? But seriously I would hate to mess this up and be out of comission for a long time.
Also, I have no idea where to find an update for the bios. Manufactuers Homepage obviously but to be sadly honest, I have no idea where it is. The mother board is a 6ABX2V or 6AZX2V ATX form factor. Thats all the information I've got except for that, as I mentioned earlier, I got the thing with the shopss.com deal
If someone who knows what they're doing might be willing to point me in the right direction or show me specifically where I should go, I would be most greatful.
In things that are important I would rather not trust myself... so thanks for whatever you have/will provide me with

Ok, as far as the trouble you can expect and the procedure. Some bios flashes are different but basically you download a zip that will have the instructioons and a bin file and maybe a couple other files inside it. You create a boot disk with the bin and the flash utility exe file andhwatever it asks for and then you boot with the disk and run the exe and tell it the flash rom name when t asks (the bin file) and then it will flash it. It goes well most of the time. just have to be certain that the flash rom deff goes with your board exactly and specifically. If it doesn't matcher perfectly or there is possibly a power outage just as tehe flash happens the the bios is trashed. It is possible to save but you have to have another bios chip from the exact same motherboard and switch them while it is running and that will save it. Hope this helps more. I get plenty of help from this forum myself , I'm just hoping I can do my share.

yes thank you, indeed a mistake on my part could put me in quite a spot.
The final question is, does Ulysses have the right page? If he does I should be all set, otherwise....
