Can anyone recommend the best updated firmware for my new NEC 3520A DVD Burner?

Just curious about which of the many unofficial firmwares is the best? Can anyone suggest one that is stable, increases burning speed, and widens the media that work well? Thanks.

I wouldn't use unofficial firmware. You are asking for problems. Just use the latest official release unless that will just not do.

Here you go..

Always used unofficial firmware with my Pioneer DVR-105, with the 108 at work, and many different DVD-ROM drives. If it doesn't work any better, just flash it back.
