Can anyone recommend a good Color injet Printer?

Always used Lexmark becasue they're cheap. It seems hard to find good printer reviews but here's what I'd like to get:

1.) Awesome photo quality -- looks like on the the 6 color jobs will do for this?

2.) Something not too expensive to keep running. I like Canon's 6 ink-well idea wher you only have to exchange a well as it goes dry instead of an entire cartridge.

i960 🙂 The pictures are close to photo lab quality when you use premium photo paper. I have been extremely please with mine, and with the cost under $200.00 shipped you can't beat it.

What about maintenance? One of the things that really bother me about inkjets is that you have to use them about every day to keep the print heads from clogging, etc...

Are these printers "good" for a long time?

Is the print head separate from the cartridge?

I don't think you can call the costs in ink and photo paper cheap.

It's cheaper and hassle-free to email the photos to a lab.

Canon i560, i860 or i960. Best printers you can buy right now. Great looking print quality, super reliable, quiet, relatively inexpensive ink carts.

I would go with the new Canon i965 model for a 6 ink cart based printer, the i865 is also worth a look(5 ink cart printer, one black for text, one black for photo, and the standard cyan, magneta, yellow).

Well, If you are not interested in printing pictures, just go with a low to mid priced HP....

Ironically... I have an OLD -I mean dirt old HP 660C I bought in either 92 or 94.... It's still going. I use it now and then for printing presentations, and stuff that I want color for. So.... Just the fact that this tank is still going makes me a big fan of HP>

Currently the best photoquality on the market within reasonable costs is the epson r800. It uses pigment inks in separate cartridges (eight of them but 1 is a glosser) Pigment inks are the ones that will suppossedly last for 70 years.

The canon 960 has less quality and uses dye based inks. Fading in certain conditions can be a problem.

Canon is coming out with a new model in about a month (i9xxx?), that will have 8 individual color cartridges but they will also be dye based. Speculation has it that this will be a great printer.

If you want to sell photos probably pigment based inks are best and are also waterproof. Otherwise dye based inks are suitable as long as you protect them, they do tend to look a bit more vivid, and they are a hair cheaper.
Keep in mind that any of the good photo printers require their own brand of premium paper for the best output.

Good luck

Canon for sure.

Coming from your Lexmark, you'll be very happy to see the difference in ink prices.

While Lexmark ink is roughly $30 for a black, I just got some black ink for my i850 for $12 at Walmart.

laser printers don't clog , injet do- with infrequent use?
. is there a easy fix to restore ink flow OR is there a third type design that will provide decent service?
I really only see a need for black ink , but if the tv commercials are accurate color is just as affordable.
I see a real merit in getting a multifunction printer/scanner/copier /fax , though that is as much as
I know of them . I was told they are available for around $100, dedicated scanner or dedicated
printer may be higher resolution - but again I only see a need for utilitarian B&W type copies .
there is is the issue of print heads getting replaced with cart - a nice idea/feature
Obviously I am unfamilar with the hardware and seek suggestions for basic multifunction unit of ANY design- non clogging or easy to restore ink flow in very infrequent use.
",i960cost under $200.00 shipped you can't beat it. " so , HOW MUCH for a GOOD bare bones multi unit . I need to get a dig. cam too so a package deal - if you know of one would be great.
though it 's unlikely to find that Panasonic DMC-FZ1 12x Optical Zoom , paire up to a entry level printer /scanner.
Sorry o ,for the multiple points and questions , just seek to get up to speed and make a purchase pronto. Should this be a new thread?:

Yeah, markk, should be a new thread . . . you might search FIRST in GH (as this has been somewhat covered before and you can get some "background") then in Hot Deals ('cause there was a recent multifunction machine for cheap).

back on Topic . . . Canon i860 - awesome ALL-around printer with a (large) black cartridge JUST 4 text (awesome text) and a black for photo (great photos) and 3 others . . . cheap ink replacement, SUPER FAST and SILENT.

Plus it's (it was last week when i got one) about $130 with a $30 mail-in-rebate.

canon i860 - its great

the absolute KEY to photo printers is to use the right paper

canon glossy pro photo paper..you won't be able to tell the difference from a commercial print...absolutely stunning prints.
