Can anyone recommend a car shipping company?

GasX

Lifer
I am likely to be moving from NJto FL in the next few months and will want to ship 1-3 cars. Any ideo how much this costs and whether any companies are better to deal with than others?

If you can't find anybody to drive them down for you, I would suggest Reliable Carriers. They transport most of the vehicles for the auto shows and various marketing events (they have a center in Canton, MI), so I used to work with them when I did that stuff. I also used them to transport my car from Detroit, MI to Phoenix, AZ (so did another coworker years ago). Their people are really easy to work with and I never had to worry about where/when, etc.

I would not trust 3 college kids with any of my cars. Did you ever see the movie "Moving" where Dana Carvey drives one of Richard Prior's cars across country?

lol - so not going to happen.

Forget the daily drivers, there is NO WAY I would let a teenager drive the 1986 560 SEC

Reliable Carriers would be a good one to choose, they are one of the better auto haulers.

I highly suggest you try here.

You'll have to get quotes.

yes, because google orders in order of reliability...

At least you have a list to start on instead of a bunch of half-witted replies on a computer forum 😛

You'll have to search for company reputations, etc. I'm not lifting one finger to help unless I'm getting paid 😉

Estimated cost $400-500/vehicle

You may be able to get some "bulk" discount.

Is this a company move or self move?

i looked in moving vehicles from SC to CO since we had to move 3 cars, and the average quote was over 900$.
We ended up just planning it out, towing one and driving the other two across.

if you can get on a rail line, it is cheaper then door to door, but good luck, the rail lines are odd to work through.
Oh, and be careful who you get quotes from, some will call you night and day for a week even after you've moved. they are really hard up.

Pay Tridentboy to do it!

Yes, please. He lives about a half hour north of me. I'll sleep better at night knowing he's on the other side of the country 😉

There used to be a by rail with your car (cars?) from Amtrak, probably still is, from the NE to FLA. It might be seasonal, but then, Winter IS the season for this.

I can't but imagine that an over-the-road carrier would be pricey.

Edit: Looks like the route has been truncated to "Lorton, Va. to Sanford, Fla."

Probably not what you want.

That route has been that way for over 10 years. I used it once in the early 90s.
By the time he gets down from Jersey, he is 1/3 of the way there.
Sanford is just north east of Orlando.

It's back to the original route.
IIRC, they tried expanding that. It didn't work well, and ended up selling their rolling stock to Amtrak.
