PowerMax won't work on Nvidia chipsets, just call them up and say your drive is dead. I just RMAed my Maxtor and told them PowerMax wouldn't work on my board, and played the clicking sound the drive was making, then immediately got an RMA number :).

It probably isn't necessary. My code number for a recent drive is: 664s57. Mine also had the "click of death." :)

For what it's worth the last time I had trouble running Powermax tester the problem was I had not finished loading some pci card drivers . As soon as I loaded the drivers (soundblaster and modem) which got rid of the exclamation marks in Device Manager, Powermax ran without any trouble.

Funny, that 664s57 is the same code I got.

I don't know if it was the click of death, but it would occasionally make a wierd thunk and lose data. It also ran too hot to touch.
