I'm not a Mitt Romney supporter but he's never flopped on Guantanamo Bay. He likes it, he likes that they don't get access to lawyers and will never get to US soil.

As far as I can tell he's been consistent on wanting to keep marijuana illegal, even medical marijuana.

Unless they are a Democrat.

Then their changing of positions will be celebrated.

Yes, Kerry was widely praised for his flip flops. Thank you for your astute analysis.

Republican Arithmetic - Mitt Romney has flip flopped at least once about every issue he has ever addressed. By simple arithmetic, that means AT LEAST half of everything he has ever said is a lie.

No matter how much Romney and Ryan try to duck, cover, bob, weave, lie and flip flop, they can't run away from their own contradictory statements.

If they duck when they lie, and they lie when they duck, they're F... errr... DUCKING LIARS!

Perfect description of Romney being caught in a Liar's Paradox. Fans of old Star Trek series will get this...

Money, he likes it, he has always liked it and he wants more of it. He likes money so much that you can re arrange the letters of his last name to spell R Money which is bragable.

So Romney not only stuck both feet in his mouth with trying to attack Obama over the embassy riots/attacks, he then doubled-down and defended his statements when asked about it.

Well, knowing Romeny, you know it was only a matter of time before he did a 180 on his own position, and here it is:

Link

So:
1. Make stupid incorrect statement
2. Defend original stupid statement
3. Flip-flop back and take back statement.

Just another flip-flop from the master of it.

Hi. I'm Mitt Romney, and I want to state clearly that my position on any issue is the opposite of what I said it was yesterday or the day before. In fact, I'll revise my position on anything to whatever you want to hear, and that will last forever... or until I get to the next town where someone wants to hear the opposite of whatever it was I just said my position is, whichever comes first.

W mitt Romney can always agree that he wants more Federalist economic intervention, more spending, more inflation, more centralization of power, and more war, but he just doesn't always want to admit to it.

While I realize this thread isn't really about substance, but rather about partisans having the opportunity to jack off in their own little Romney fantasy land, just in case anyone really is interested in the topic, yes, there are quite a few things Romney has held a constant position on.

From Fact Check, you can find the following list:

The DNC says Romney flip-flopped on the Wall Street bailout — when, in fact, he has consistently supported its original intent but opposed Obama’s decision to extend TARP and use its funds for other programs, including the auto bailout.

The DNC also claims Romney changed his position on the auto bailout. The fact is Romney consistently called for a “managed bankruptcy” similar to what was later undertaken, but he opposed the use of federal funds by both Bush and Obama.

The video casts Romney as a one-time supporter of Obama’s stimulus. In fact, Romney favored a smaller stimulus and opposed the “excessive borrowing” of Obama’s plan as the “wrong course.”

The DNC video also portrays Romney as supporting the Obama health care plan. Not true. He has consistently defended his Massachusetts law as right for his state, but opposed imposing it on other states by federal law.

Similarly, the DNC claims Romney supported Obama’s education program, Race to the Top. But, again, Romney supported some of the program’s goals, but he said those kinds of issues ought to be handled at the state level, not federal.

The reallity is that Romney has changed is stance on many positions, and as such, the Dems saw how well labeling Kerry a flip-flopper worked in 2004, and so they're running with the idea, trying to paint Romney just like the partisans in this thread are doing. For those that lack the ability for independent thought, its working quite well. For people that are willing to actually do the most basic research, it becomes pretty obvious pretty quickly that a significant portion of it just isn't accurate and another significant portion lacks nuance.

Just from this thread for example.

Tax loopholes - you can't say this is a flip flop just because Romney uses them. That is like saying the wealthy that call for tax increases are flip flopping because they don't pay a higher tax rate right now. It is pretty normal for people to play by the current rules and not by the rules they may prefer or advocate.

Anyways, I could go on, but I'll let everyone return to their political jerk offs. Sorry for the distraction.

As soon as he get's nominated he's gonna right out a big fat check to his king....

One thing he doesn't flip on is his religion and wow... you'll see some big changes if ever gets in. I still have my $$$ on Obama and my vote... But I really don't care what happens since I have no faith for the two party cluster fuck. But it will be really interesting to see what happens IF Romney wins. The American people are some pretty stupid fucks.

Just wanted to point out a couple things. First, Romney's desire to have Detroit go bankrupt wouldn't have worked because of the financial crisis where banks wouldn't have lent to do that. Everyone knows this. The reason for the flip is that when the federal government went and bailed out Detroit in the way that Romney specifically was against doing, Romney later came out and directly said he'll take some of the credit for it even though it is exactly what he DIDN'T want to do.

And second, here's a site with a couple vids discounting the claim he didn't want to take it federal.

The rest I can't comment on as I don't care to look up, these are just the ones I knew well enough off the top of my head to talk about.

original intent is not the same and how can you be in favor of auto bailout and against funding it?

The DNC also claims Romney changed his position on the auto bailout. The fact is Romney consistently called for a “managed bankruptcy” similar to what was later undertaken, but he opposed the use of federal funds by both Bush and Obama.

Romney said "We can kiss the auto industry goodbye if this passes" Doesn't sound in favor

The video casts Romney as a one-time supporter of Obama’s stimulus. In fact, Romney favored a smaller stimulus and opposed the “excessive borrowing” of Obama’s plan as the “wrong course.”

Being in favor of stimulus but saying its not the same thing because I wanted a smaller one is having it both ways so this is a defacto flip

The DNC video also portrays Romney as supporting the Obama health care plan. Not true. He has consistently defended his Massachusetts law as right for his state, but opposed imposing it on other states by federal law.

Romney said "The Mass plan is a model for the "nation"

Similarly, the DNC claims Romney supported Obama’s education program, Race to the Top. But, again, Romney supported some of the program’s goals, but he said those kinds of issues ought to be handled at the state level, not federal.

I don't know enough about this so you may have one
