Can anyone install a TV mount?

Oh, and PREDRILL! If you happen to split the stud in half by not predrilling you wont really know until you get woken up by your $2,000 TV crashing to the ground because the bolts were not as well held as you thought they were.

This is especially true with the extendible arms. The pressure being put on the wall when it's extended is multiple times the weight of the TV. Leverage.

Saw this and thought of this thread:

BTW, in the background is the 32" I mounted all by myself:

oh i like that mount.

BTW i have the same TV but i think mines a 37inch visio! great tv's for the price.

mounted a 60" plasma no prob. 2 screws into a stud, 2 in drywall anchors to keep it level.

honestly making sure it's level is the most difficult thing.

I'm not a craftsman of any sorts. Think i'm going to attempt installing a mount on my wall then putting my TV up there. Makes me miiiiighty nervous. I don't have a stud finder either but I measured them 24" apart. I can feel where they are by tapping.

It would be very sad if my new 42" LED feel down and broke 🙁

Call someone more able or attempt it myself? And don't answer based on you wanting to see pics of my TV broken.

Use a detector to locate at least to (2) wall studs. You'll be gold if you can if you can get the screws into solid wood ...

i can do it/have done it
i don't trust 'stud finders' or 'tapping'
i use a small nail to punch a bunch of holes to make really sure exactly where the stud is

I have to do it this way because I have an old house with plaster and lathe and a stud finder will never work because the old lathe is 1/4" thick. On a new home stud finders should work but if I'm hanging a tv I would still check it out with a nail.... you will end up with 3 to 8...9 small holes covered by the TV and they can be easily patched.
