Can anyone help me with Asus K7m

I just bought this board on the FS/FT forum. hooked it up today and keep getting these alternating alarm sounds from the system speaker. But the system boots and runs fine except I have to disconnect the speaker to get rid of those d*mn alarms.

Things I have tried and checked:
Tried three different slot A cpu's overclocked and stock.
checked all jumpers I could find and or read about
Checked all the bios settings to see if anywhere to disable
Flashed to latest bios
cleared cmos several times with each cpu test
minimal hardware installed for testing, no sound,no nic,only one PCI video card and crucial memory

I have tested all these CPU's in my Abit kA7 and they work just fine,any solutions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Two things come to mind: 1. reverse the speaker leads, and 2. make sure your cpu fan is plugged into cpu header #1 (the alarm might be from lack of rpm signal from the fan). EDIT. Just thought of another: Check threshold temperature values if you're running Asus Probe.

Tried that too Danlz , just didn't get it listed here. even made sure I had system fan connected and switched to different headers, different coolers (Alpha & Globalwin). This beats the crap outta me, i have heard some screaching before when put one together and forgot the vid card or something, while in a big hurry. but i have checked this thing up and down and can't figure. I thought about slapping an AGP card in but don't really believe thats got anything to do with it. The really starnge part is it runs smooth as silk!!!!!

Pick me pick me i know the answer to this one!!!

You have to go into the bios and disable the temperature monitoring, it's beeping because you're missing the probe which is sold separately. My friend had the exact same problem with his k7m and we called up the place that sold it to him and that's what solved it.

Pretty sure it'll work 🙂

Sounds reasonable since i do not have the probe. I will go look in the bios and get back to you.

no go, still sounds like a small ambulance is in here. everything is set to disable and ignore in that catagory. maybe this is just a piece of sh*t. Im just wondering if i just disconnect system speaker if that will end it or will it transfer to sound card when i install it.

Ok it may not have been the temp sensors then. I am 100% sure that it has something to do with sensors of some kind. What about the fan and cpu voltage settings? have you set those on ignore as well... I am pretty sure it is a bios setting that is causing the beeping. If you reset the bios it'll automatically start beeping right after you reboot. My suggestion is to check the cpu voltage numbers to ignore or something about the fan rpms?

I have two K7Ms and will get that same siren sound unless I disable ALL sensors in BIOS. That does not disable Asus Probe.

The other possibility . . . and this happened to me . . . was that I was needing a better power supply. I replaced the Leadman 300 Watt with a Sparkel 300 watt and it went away.

BTW . . . after about 9 months of use, these two K7Ms are the ,ost stable systems I have ever had . . . they never crash . . . and I'm running ME on both.

Well I have Antec PP-303X 300W on all my systems, Including my Abit Kt7raid, and AbitKa7, and was running an MSI until it crapped a few days ago. Doesn't really seem that should be the problem but I will look into it next. seems like the general consensus is I need to keep looking through the bios. will the alarms transfer to the sound card if I just unplug the dang thing.

Oh! and thanks to all for your help and suggestions

Snapshot of my Bios under Hardware Monitor Setup. Yours should be similar:

Chassis Intrusion = Disable
cpu Temp = 32 F.
MB Temp = 89 F.
cpu Fan Speed = 6250 rpm
PS Fan Speed = Ignore
Chassis Fan Speed = Ignore
vcore = 1.712V
Vcache = 3.424V
Vio = 3.424V
+5V = 5.113V
+12V = 11.680V
-12V = Ignore
-5V = Ignore
Battery = 3.216V
+5V SB = 5.082V

I've had this problem many times with the k7m. After disabling all hardware monitoring, try re-seating the cpu and make sure that it is in the slot firmly. Also make sure all cards are seated firmly in their slots. I've found that the board is extremely picky about such things. If this doesn't work, try booting into the bios and toggling some of the hardware monitoring on and then back off again. If you play with these things, the alarm sound will stop. Other than that, the k7m is an excellent MB, extremely stable.
