Can anyone help me identify this noise coming from my car?

I drive an 04 Grand Prix, and a little while ago, I started noticing a noise. When I first heard it, I pulled a hard left out of a side street to beat traffic, so I'm assuming this is what started it.

The best I can describe the noise is that it's a whine, and the loudness of this whine is directly tied to the throttle. However, here's the thing. If the car is cold, and I'm simply taking corners slowly and driving in a straight line, the whine is nowhere to be heard. I can gun it down a straight stretch, getting up to 3-4k RPM and not hear it. However, as soon as I have to take a decent left or right turn while applying the throttle, the whine appears. The harder I have to take the turn, the louder the whine becomes.

Once the whine is present (and it's easily heard with the windows down, sometimes even with the windows up), it sticks around. I can park, shut off the car, and come back 15 minutes later, and I guess since the car is still hot, the whine is still there. However, sometimes, once the whine is present, and I drive straight for a little while, the whine will go away while I'm driving.

Like I mentioned before, the loudness of the whine is directly tied to how hard I press the throttle. The more throttle I give, the louder the whine. The whine only starts to become audible around 1.5-2k RPM. It's the same whether I'm parked or driving. I can park the car and press in the throttle to hear the whine very easily. Also, the whine comes from the front of the car. To be even more specific, I think it's on the right side, but I'm not sure on it.

I'm betting that someone will know exactly what it is. I would just take it to a mechanic to get it diagnosed, but I don't want to go that route if I can figure it out on my own. My wife was a pretty serious car wreck about 3 1/2 months ago, so I'm having to take her back and forth to work while she recovers while still working 8 hours a day myself. That gives me absolutely no time to do anything from 7 in the morning to 6 at night.

Thanks for any help!!

I have a similar problem. Mine started one day when I was driving on a construction ripped apart road with pure pebbles and rocks everywhere on a rainy day. I was making a turn at a fast pace and all of a sudden I heard a squeak squeak squeak squeak coming from somewhere when I am driving, not remotely loud but still noticable with the windows down.

Anyways I have this random squeak pretty much ever since, and I've also noticed applying the brakes makes it go away, along with turning (but it's random). Is there a rock or something jolted in the car?

yours sounds like it could be a wheel bearing

Ya a friend told me that too. I am going to get my car checked out soon, so we will see, hopefully it's not a serious problem. Btw it's a Lexus ES 300 year 2001

Just throwing out an idea:

If the power steering is putting additional load on the accessory belt when turning and is slipping as a result, then the resulting belt slipping whine could be tied to both turning and engine RPM (faster engine = more slip). You could check it easily yourself with the engine off. Press on the middle of the belt with your finger. If you can get it to deflect more than a centimeter or two, it's probably too loose.

Is the accessory belt the one attached to the alternator amongst other various parts that I do not know the names to?

I was going to check my power steering fluid today after work (about 30 minutes ago), but it's pretty low in the engine compartment, so I have to wait for it to cool down.

Thanks to everyone for the advice so far.

Yes, that should be the one. :)

Check your power fluid level - I bet that's it.

After a nice long hwy drive (once it makes the noise) pull over and carefully touch each wheel - many times a wheel bearing going out will make the wheel hot as hell.
