Can anyone figure this out?

Annoying ah heck, thought I had it because my first theory held up for three tries, anyway got it after about a minute.

Problems like that can be very annoying as there are many ways of approaching it. At some point it just becomes tedious checking each possible combination/ way of looking at it.

about 30 seconds to figure it out.
i got lucky and started with an easy combination. after that it was just process of elimination.

although, i am disturbed by the fact that the line that says the smarter you are the harder it is to figure out...

Pishaw... you spoiled it by saying it doesn't require math. Pleeze edit that out - I will too after you do.

It is kinda mean though; if it took a 'really smart guy' a year, I'm guess I'm just stupid cause it took like a minute. Maybe he's just not really that dynamic of a thinker, or maybe his definition of smart is ... um, who knows?

Well, I think I got it at least.... worked for every time for a few at least.

It took me about 40 rolls before I saw the light. My 2nd , 3rd, and 4th guesses were correct, even though I didn't have a clue.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always considered myself the smart guy, too. I can't believe it, I kept looking at it mathematically, and there didn't seem to be any solution until I actually LOOKED at the problem as a whole.

I hate these things...

I think that reading the description below the game must have given it away for me. My first guess on how to interpret the question was correct.

I'm reminded of that great line from "The Caine Mutiny". It's a master plan conceived by geniuses to be executed by idiots. Therefore before doing anything first ask yourself, "How would I do this if I were a fool?".

maybe it would be easier if the "Rose" looked more like a Rose...., Most roses don't have 2 petals .. took me a while.

There was a thread on this in OT a few weeks ago on this... I'm not sure why anyone thinks this can't be solved mathematically.

Ultimately, you could roll the dice a few times and end up with 6 equations and 6 unknowns.
But, it was an extremely simple system of equations, as it was obvious there were no negative solutions,
which quickly gave values of 0 for some of the dice.

Thus, it was a piece of cake mathematically. Almost 0 effort.
I'm not sure why anyone had trouble thinking of it mathematically...

A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E=5, F=6

First roll: 1,1,1,1,1 Total =0. Obviously, 1's are worth 0.
2nd roll: 3,2,6,2,4 2B + C + D + F = 2
3rd roll: 1,5,6,5,6 A + 2E + 2F = 8, but A=0 So, 2D + 2E = 8
4th roll: 3,1,3,1,1 3A + 2C = 4. Since A = 0, then, C =2.

Going back to 2nd roll, B, D, F = 0
Going back to 3rd roll, E = 4
Done.
A, B, D, F = 0
C = 2
E = 4.

Then, I said "ohhhh, I get it... that was stupid."

I ran the game 3 times, each time was approximately the same level of difficulty.
Your math stinks if you had trouble mathematically 😛

In the notes,
It had taken Dr. Duke well over a year himself, and he would always explain that the smarter you were, the longer it took to figure it out.
Don't take this as a valid point. Dr. Duke is trying to rationalize why he was being rather dense. 😉

Coming from someone who used to have the 'teacher' icon and who talks about systems of equations, you sound an awful lot like a math teacher/professor. I'd think almost everyone's math compared to a professional's would 'stink' comparatively. Am I correct, though, math teacher?

hehe ... that's a nice one. Saw the light after the first roll-guess-tell cycle 😉 But that may just mean I'm hanging around people playing that kind of game too much ...
