Can anyone explain how Fry's isn't on the east coast?

i can't imagine the suck of being stuck with only best buy and circuit city.....

as for expansion, perhaps they are just being smart about it instead of spamming out stores...
i dunno
i'm sure they have space for big box stores, i doubt theres a shortage of walmarts/costcos/targets/homedepots etc in the east.

well, you got the big players and the big players who play it hard.

if you wanna do e-business, you need to go all out if you're willin' to xpand.

trust me, it's the people. people run companies, and if one company is doing well, good. if one company isn't, that's too darn bad. fact, run by people.

management.

amen.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Naw, its to compensate because you guys have to set your alarms to make sure you can get up and watch football.

I'd rather wake up at 10 AM to watch some football then to start watching a baseball game at 10 PM.

Fry's requires a large number of FOBs in cheap suits in order to operate at peak capacity. FOBs are in shorter supply on the East Coast, and the ones there wear better suits.

Yeah, us East Coasters still use oil lamps and live in caves

Pity this isn't the case. Having driven through Boston, it's clear that you guys have no clue what to do with cars.;)

LOL, I miss messing with Fry's Door Nazi's. Nothing says success like treating your customers like they are thieves. I also miss the poorly informed immigrants speaking Pigeon English they hire as sales people.

Fry's is the Walmart of Electronic Stores which can be good or bad depending how you view Walmart.

I think there's two Fry's here in Atlanta. I've been to it once or twice. It's just big wasted space. I can't stand most B&M stores. I haven't been inside Best Buy in like 2 years.

Matters what your definition of worse drivers.

Aggressive assholes = Boston
Don't know how to drive and slow = Seattle
Speed and don't like to use signals = CA Bay Area

Well I'm originally from the Bay Area so I guess I'm use to that style.

QFT. Boston might have bad drivers, but driving in lower Manhattan at night is the vehicular equivalent of being in a teen horror movie. You hope your the one guy (actually, its usually a hot girl) who makes it out alive, but then just as you think you've made it, reality takes a baseball bat to your head. I personally call my daily commute home "Escape From New York".

Ok, I'm exaggerating a bit :D

I'm incredibly lucky. I live in South Bend, IN, while my folks moved to San Fran 15 years ago. I was introduced to Fry's when I went out to visit.

Fry's recently opened stores in Chicago and Indianapolis. (Just a few years AFTER I moved from Indy. Grrr...) Both are about a 2 1/2 hour drive for me. This is perfect, because if they were any closer, and I could get my hands on B&M deals on RAM and mobo/cpu combos, I'd be BROKE.

They're just far enough away that they're in cities I visit a few times a year. Perfect!

I don't have a frys, microcenter, or CompUSA (not that it matters anymore). All I have in town is Circuit City and Best Buy, both of which apply to the lowest common denominator. I wish a Fry's would pop up, but instead they're building more Targets, more Circuit Citys, Possibly another best buy, and they finished a new WM Super Center. We have no diversity when it comes to stores where I live.

To get to the nearest fry's for me, I have to go to Austin, about an 1.5 hour drive. If I want to go to Microcenter, it's a 3 hour drive to dallas. Bleh. There's so much new stuff being built around my city and neighboring cities... just nothing "new." Just more of the same stuff.

i think Fry's started by the Fry family, who ran a supermarket in Palo Alto, then
started an electronics store in a railroad warehouse about 2 miles southeast of
Stanford.

then it grew. and grew.

i think they're careful about expansion. i don't think they're publicly held,
they don't have to worry about impressing investors.

Fry's Supermarkets were all over the Bay Area (back in the 60's early 70's) and I believe the first Fry's Elelctronics was in Sunnyvale which is a little further south of PA than 2 miles.

I remember when they opened the one in Campbell, we use to go there and walk around in amazement thought "Wierd Stuff" in Sunnyvale was even more amazing.

Yeap. The dad had the grocery store. When the sons (John and Randy) got it, they started an electronics store instead. Now they're pretty rich. They own a sports team in San Jose and just recently bought a 747 for themselves that they lease out once in a while.

Yeah, Weird Stuff was a cool store. I think they relocated to a different location. But we still have Halted Supply and Action Surplus which are amazing electronic surplus stores. I could spend all day there.
