holy crap, just saw on guru that celestial pig prices are (at least were) up to 150-200e? hot damn.

....wish I hadn't sold mine way back when. I had at least 2 of them.... :( (got them from opening fortunes)

At least, I can't find them on my account. probably traded them away for some crap, lol.

I still have my Ox. when I logged back in ~1 month ago, I had ~2 presents waiting on each character, heh.

also, looking at those points for HoM..how do they determine "common" "rare" "unique" etc for the pets? it's definitely not by color. I dedicated one white pet, didn't get a credit for it under any category. dedicated a purple one, got a credit for "common" dedicated a second purple, didn't get any credit. wtf?

If I remember correctly, the celestial pig wasn't from fortunes. That was the year that they had the celestial rats but you could get a celestial pig if you traded in 7 mini pigs(at least I think it was 7). That made it somewhat uncommon and that's why it's so expensive.

The minipets are also done by color like some of the weapons. The common ones are white, uncommon are purple, rare are gold, and unique are green. :)

If you're goal is fun, then mess around with side missions--especially on noob island so you can level up. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I am pretty sure that there are no quests that reward skills in Factions or Nightfall, which makes Prophecies a bit more attractive. (also why you get far more gold for completing tasks in Factions and Nightfall--need to pay for skills)

Ranger is a good class--probably the most versatile as it synergizes well with pretty much all other classes. It's rather tough early on, though.

Elementalist is probably the easiest when starting out, and overall, as you can pretty much blow anything up with little to no problem--some of the most powerful skills, iirc, are Nightfall ele Fire skills. Those made an already powerful class far more ridiculous, but tons of fun. I tend to prefer the earth builds, though.

what is your in-game name?

The Ranger is Zokudu Luson this surname thing is stupid I couldn't think of anything that didn't sound stupid. I probably will not be able to get online tonight because I have a lot of cleaning and a night class but yea I'm really enjoying Ranger.

I have the warrior hero with a sword and a shield up in the monsters face and I grabbed a Monk Henchman and a Paragon henchman and have been running around shooting things. Its a lot of fun I just finished up the second batch of quests on the newbie island (I think)

White and purple = common
Gold = rare
Green = unique

You cannot dedicate 2 of the same mini, you also need to make sure you talk to the guy and select the option to view your achievements across all characters. Most likely you have dedicated a mini sometime on another character and forgot about it, so when you dedicated it just now you didn't get any credit.

It is account based, not character based, it was changed a while ago.

nah, never once dedicated a mini until last night. I did the check my account thing, and he never registered my purple or white, just the second purple that I dedicated. what an asshole.

I've always viewed minis as BS that clogs up my storage and something to be sold for hilarious profit.

The only green that i currently seem to have is an Eye of Janthir and gold is the Celestial Ox. Not sure if I will dedicate those.

....but how did the celestial pig become so valuable? I remember the fiasco of the mini pig becoming so common, selling for ~1k each, then suddenly skyrocketing to 50k+ during that New Years event for the Celestial Pig. I think I sold two pigs for that, then got 2 celestials, at least, from opening fortunes--1 was from my first fortune, heh.

No idea how I got rid of them, but there goes ~150e, it seems.

you definitely got them from fortunes. You could trade in the mini pigs, or get one from fortunes. It wasn't easy, I was just very lucky and people in the guild got all jelly. I'm sure I sold one of them--or likely gave it away-to one of the dudes that really wanted it bad.

For some strange reason, I was stockpiling those fortunes like crazy. For the second celestial event, I ended up selling ~2.5 stacks of pig fortunes that i had hoarded from the previous year. made a tidy profit--considering they were mostly worthless. :)

EDIT: ah, you're correct. only with the year of rat did they ad the celestial miniatures to fortunes. I probably had 2 rats, then. heh.
the pig fortunes would give you miniature pigs--I guess that's how they spammed the economy. then the next year--the Rat year--you traded them in for the celestial pig. Ahhhh, it's all coming back.

Economy question. Any of this garbage worth selling or should I just vendor it all? Things like common crafting materials seem kind of worthless but I know in WoW you can make a tidy profit off low level ore and herbs.

I'm out of the loop, of course--but things like feathers and dust (ghost dust or whatever it's called) is quite valuable. They are used to craft high end consumables that people use for EotN dungeon raids.

I made some serious profits farming feathers on my Rit way back when. 10k/stack or so, at one point.

but, you should still keep them for armor. You will certainly want them. As a ranger, you need leather and, I think, cloth? Warrior also needs leather for some armor sets.

I'm not sure if it was a special limited event or not, but your storage chest should have a dedicated panel to crafting materials. Just shove them in there until each stack is full.

I'm not sure how valuable black and white dye are these dyes, but if you see it, don't sell it to the merchant. people used to pay decent prices for those.

You have a materials tab you can purchase for your Xunlai storage chest, I would stockpile materials until you have a stack, and then start selling the materials.

I have a Ritualist going through Factions at level 9 already. I think my major problem with this game is I don't understand how rotations work? Are there rotations? I seem to cast 2 spirits then a hex that makes my 2 spirits deal additional damage and then stand around and auto attack because I'm out of energy.

All 3 of the classes I've tried have had this issue of I don't know if what I am doing is correct but I don't die so i guess I'm not awful?

Forget everything you know about MMO's in terms of how games like WOW are played.

There, feel better?

quick answer - yes, some skills are obviously better used when another skill is used before it, but no, there aren't rotations. Your energy is limited and you need to think your process through.

I'm not sure what a rotation is, but you do have to put your builds together with consideration towards your energy pool and cost of skills. There are several ways to mitigate the energy consumption, of course--armor runes that increases max energy pool, skills that increase energy restoration (I know there is a spirit--most likely "zealous something" that will restore x energy every time it hits), and weapon mods--always "zealous x" that will restore 1 pt energy for each successful hit (also reduces by 1 pip your total energy regen).

IIRC, a lot of those spirits are very high energy costs, so you really need to be careful about choosing carefully. You often don't want more than 2 of them on a general rit build as the energy costs are too high. I tend to focus on the 5 energy cost spirits--and skills, for that matter--and limit the 10 energy skills. 15 energy skills; you probably want ones that have a long time of effect to outweigh the cost. There are also those "ash skills" that rits have, where you regen energy, health, whatever, as you hold it, and gain some sort of boost when it's dropped. On top of that, you have spells that have effects "while holding an item," meaning, the ash skills. For most successful builds, you want at least 4 skills that are tied to each other, and generally with the same attribute, so that you can max out one attribute, and have two more near the top.

I fooled around a bit last night, and discovered that all of my build templates are saved to hard drive...which means they are not available for my recent re-install on the newer desktop. Good thing I still have that hard drive, haha. I must have a few hundred build templates saved to that.

One thing that will make your life easier, OP, though will take some time to establish, is collecting all 3 Nec heroes asap--but this means getting to LA in Prophecies, a bit late in Vabbi for Nightfall, aaaand, I'm not quite sure where that 3rd female Nec is? probably EoTN? also--collecting the proper skills.

look up "Sabway hero build" on guild wars guru. it still seems to be rather effective, and is almost like autopilot through much of the game. And putting something like that together is a rather decent goal that will take some time, expose you to large, diverse areas of the whole series.

But if you don't have EoTN, it may not be worth your effort.

For ranger--I prefer a zealous bow (+1 eng/attack, -1 regen) because a lot of those builds are also energy heavy.

with skills like barrage, which will attack multiple targets at once, you get up to 6 energy per hit (assuming it hits 6 targets), combined with the rit's "splinter weapon," I think you can get up to 10-12 energy max, per hit with barrage?

something like that.

I would go to PvX wiki to get some builds. What you are experiencing is one of the biggest reasons GW2 is being made, the game got way too complicated over time and new players get turned off. http://www.gwpvx.com/PvX_wiki

PvX wiki not only gives builds, but it also usually explains how to use them.

Ranger is pretty poor in PvE compared to other classes because they are a utility class more designed for PvP. The ritualist is pretty boring in PvE, you just poop some spirits then aggro enemies and auto attack.

Ritualist is a lot of standing around and letting your spirits do the work, there was one skill that makes it more fun, I think it was called wrath, that does damage based on the number of spirits on cd and also has a like a 5 sec cd to use. Also the spell that makes your spirits explode is pretty entertaining, mixing that with the doom spirit can make for a pretty big bomb. I would try to get armor with +energy on all the pieces it helps a lot to lay down a lot of spirits, also there are some skills you can use (i think there's a spirit that gives back energy per hit?) to help aleviate energy problems. I remember being able to lay down 5-6 spirits in a row on my rit which was pretty awesome.

there was a spirit spamming build that I used to solo farm a scythe from a Balthazar-wielding boss holed-up in one of those Vabbian castles. If I can dig up the template code I'll post it.

It's also OK for general use, just not involved

It's neat to watch, but yeah-you're mostly watching the spirits do all the work. You get one interrupt skill to use (quite necessary against a spirit of Balthazar dervish, of course).

OP, you still playing this?

anyone?

this god-damned thread pulled me back in to get my HoM points up. I had started out with 14 points after checking, now I'm at 26--just had to finish up a few loose ends where I left off, and burned cash (made it all selling junk, too) to purchase hero armor and such.

add me and hit me up if any one is online: Zinfamous Son of Zi.

I will probably be vanquishing in Factions and NF, and completing masters quests for NF, mostly.

yeah. one of my guildies was on last night--shocked to see me back after 2 years, heh--and gave me the terrible news that GW2 isn't really expected until late 2012 (best time estimate from ANet boss. ) :(

I was quite disappointed, as I'm expecting 2nd quarter at the latest. Anyway, I haven't been able to verify this information, and the main sight still suggests that beta testing is set to begin at the end of this year.
