Can anyone comment on JBL Stadium series or Klipsch SF-1 speakers?

I was wondering if either of these were good for budget minded people wanting to slowly build a home audio system. I want to start with only sub and 2 front and center speaker then later add the rear speakers when I get more $. Amazon has the jbl stadium floor speakers for only 150 each and klipsch sf-1 floor speakers for only 30 more. I'm debating between the two, unless someone suggests better speakers for around this price. Thanks.

I'm in a tiny apartment right now so I thought 2.1 would do, but in about 6 months I'll be moving so I'll be able to save up some money and then add the rest at that time.

Nothing wrong with 2.1 or 3.1 to start, but you might want to do bookshelf speakers + sub rather than floorstanding speakers + sub to get the best bang for your buck.

In New York you should be able to find some Klipsch retailers to see if you like Klipsch's sound in general. Maybe JBL too.

What kind of budget are you thinking for the whole system?

I'm going to send you a PM with the start of some general HT type advice that I've been working on.

Got your PM, will take a look later. Thank you very much! I don't want to spend more than $500 for now (that's why I'm not getting rear speakers) because I still have to save up for a good reciever which is going to add another $500-600.

You can get an Onkyo 605 for about $400 shipped which would be a pretty solid way to go if you're looking for HDMI audio processing as a feature you want.

I think if you can divert that $100-$200 away from the receiver towards a better 2.1 speaker/sub combo, that would be a good choice.

An extra $200 towards speakers or your sub should make a bigger difference in your final system than spending it on a more expensive receiver unless there's a certain feature you need that the 605 (or something similar at the ~$400 price range) doesn't have.

I've got a setup that uses the JBL stadium series.

"Voice" 2-way center channel
"Stadium" 3-way floorstanding in the front
"Monitor" 2-way bookshelves as the rear surrounds
JBL 12" sub from the same line.

Everything is matched in the series, so obviously they all transition seamlessly and compliment each other well. It was a good compromise for me between dinky HTIB type speaker sets and really high end equipment. I listened to some Klipsh stuff as well, and while those might have technically had better specifications they sounded too harsh to my ears. The front floorstanding speakers reproduce jazz/blues/rock beautifully and the whole set works well together for home theater. The center speaker is completely transparent with dialogue - a huge step up from the sony speaker i had used previously.

The floorstanding speakers produce quite a bit of bass on their own, I frequently leave the sub off to avoid disturbing the neighbors.

Best of luck. Whatever you buy, you're going to enjoy it.
