FALL 2005
LINEAR AND NONLINEAR SYSTEMS OF DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

Instructor: G.Eskin
MWF 2-3 pm Room:MS 5127
Office:MS 6917, Office hours: M 3:30 - 4:30, W 3:30 -4:30.
Textbook: S.H.Strogatz, Nonlinear dynamics and chaos. We shall cover most of Chapters 2-7 and the first half of Chapter 8.
There will be one midterm exam (during the sixth week of classes) and the final exam.
Grading
The grading policy:
1.Homework:15% of total grade,
2.Midterm:35%
3.Final exam:50%
Alternative grading:
1.Homework:15%
2.Final exam:85%
I shall choose the best of these two alternatives. There will be no makeup midterm exams. No calculators, books or notes are allowed during the exams.
Homeworks will be assigned on Fridays and will be collected the following Friday in the class.
