can anybody recommend some good tires?

I'm going to head home for the holiday weekend, and I'd like to look into getting some new tires on my car before I embark on the road trip. Anybody have any recommendations? I need tires to fit a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire - I *think* they're 195/70-14. I know that's close, but I'll have to go out and check to make sure. Also, I'm looking for a best-bang-for-the-buck kind of thing. I certainly don't need high-performance tires, but I don't want junk, either. And if Walmart carries anything good, I can get a discount 😛

I recently bought tires. I took my accord to Big O and just bought the tires they recommended that came with a 4-year full-replacement warranty. So far, so good.

Get Michelins. Walmart sells them, so you can get your discount. They may have to special order them, but it doesn't take long.

Actually, I think it does. Even down here at HQ. I checked into ordering a set of BF-Goodrich tires earlier this week, and the delivery date they gave me was anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks out.

Check out reviews at Tirerack.com

I have been. I'm new in town here, so I don't know too much about the area; I'm not sure where the local shops are, or which ones I can go to and which I should avoid 😉. And it seems like anything that I find at Tirerack would have to be special ordered from places like Walmart / Sams and Sears.

Ouch. My son special ordered Michelins and they came in less than a week. Maybe they deliver more than they promise.

Now that would be a novel idea!

Buy some Kumho All seasons from the Tire Rack, they will be shipped to your door in about 2-days. Tire Rack will give you the names of installers they recommend in your area. Expect to pay about $60 for mount/balance.

If you need tires in a hurry and cant wait for shipping, Americas Tire Co is good.

Americas Tires

Even better is Costco provided you have membership They will point you in the direction of whatever they have in your size at a few different price points.

Be the first one on your block with KOs on a Sunbird! You'll laugh, laugh, laugh at gravel. You'll bang curbs just for the hell of it. And looks, well, um, hmmm.

you will never go wrong with michelin, dunlop, or Pirelli. bring $$$, quality costs.

costco discount on michelins helps a bit, though.

I don't have my Sam's membership yet, unfortunately. If I go to a Costco (if there even *is* one around here) I'd probably either be thrown out of the store or fired from my job 😛 It looks like there's a Sears auto center not too far from here; I might take a ride down there over the weekend.

i have 4 sets of michelin X-radial from costco.. good tires.. so far they are doing good. They arent high performance, they are very quiet, but they do hold under hard turns.. so it doesnt seem to slide as much but i did downgrade from teh bridgestone protenza that costco used to carry.. but nolonger does.
