Can anybody recommend a decent elliptical treadmill?

So to start, I'm extremely flatfooted. I have zero arch in my feet. Regardless of the running shoe, running hurts my feet so badly. Especially after the first mile or so. Even walking long distances can really hurt my feet. That, and flatfeet can also lead to really painful knee problems when walking or running long distances.

When I was in college I made good use of the gym facilities. The elliptical machines were pretty much what I used for all my cardio needs. I could use it for intense 30+ minute sessions 7 days a week, and I'd never encounter any sore feet or knee problems. Now that I'm done school, I'd like to get one for the house. Are there any decent elliptical machines in the $500 range? Or are the elliptical machines in that price range not even worth it? Would it be a better idea to just pay for a gym subscription?

They are absolutely 100% not even close to worth it at that price range. A sturdy, lasting elliptical bike starts at around $2K, in my experience.

PS -- I understand what you're saying about them though... if it weren't for those bikes I wouldn't have a good source of cardio.

I'd find a cheap gym (if you have one) in your area that has good equipment. There was a place where I used to live that was $15 a month and they had nice precor stuff.

My mind is instantly made up. I've been contemplating a gym membership, and there are some in the area for a reasonable monthly cost.

Now if only beer gave you 6-pack abs instead adding a spherical quality to your mid section.

We got this one from Sole Fitness for $1,299 and are very happy with it.

There is just something about having some workout equipment at your house that will give you absolutely NO excuse to skip a session.
