Ducati really named a motorcycle Hypermotard? Heh. Must mean something else in Italian. Kind of like the Chevy Nova not selling well in South America. "No va" in Spanish means "it doesn't' go", hehe.

Yes, it is the Hypermotard. Not very difficult to figure out. You can clearly read Ducati on the tank in the OP's picture.

There's a type of motorcycle racing called 'supermotard' which essentially combines arena style supercross with paved road course sections. The bikes they use are large motocrossers with shortened suspensions and road tires (treaded). Semi slicks on dirt... dirt all over the asphalt.... Needless to say, they drift a lot 😀

This model is Ducati making an open class version for street riders.

And it's the kind of bike which, as you head out for a ride, you'll want to stop by the police station to drop off your licence and cell phone number with instructions to give you a call when the fun is over... 😎

But where did the 'tard' part come from? I've also just seen it called 'supermoto.'

I googled it to see if I could find the origin...unsurprisingly, 'motard' has some derogatory slang to it, too. Apparently a USMC portmanteau of 'moto' (Army translation: 'high-speed') and 'retard.' Heh.

Blame it on the French 😀

make no mistake, they hyper is no supermoto..
Short suspension travel, heavy, and terrible dirt manners all make for the opposite of a supermoto. The hyper is a street bike with dirt bike like ergo's.
That being said.. I want one... Bad...
I just sold my supermoto a couple of months ago.. Once a month oil changes and valve adjustments get old fast. The hyper is a good balance of all day comfort, speed, but not goto jail speed. Kinda the same as my supermoto i had, but the highway is doable on the hyper. I felt like the XR was going to gernade at 80 mph, not to mention the lack of weight around semi truck wind blast.
