Here's a clue, moron. Your IP address is 68.54.52.139, and I am speaking to your ISP as you are reading this.

You can bend over and kiss your web access good bye.

woo hoo. Stop me now AT!!!

Question #1:
Can someone post your IP address without your consent on a VERY PUBLIC online message board?

Question #2:
Can a mod call up your ISP and get your internet access taken away for venting (if that's what I want to call it..) for only one post?

Question #3:
Will your ISP actually cancel your subscription for making one of these posts?

I mean, isn't that a little harsh? I know if I posted something and just unleashed all annoyances and anger towards some people here and my internet access got revoked because of one post, I'd be pissed even further. I mean, why not just ban the IP address and be done with it? Do you really have to go through the ISP to remove the bastards internet access.

Sure, there are plenty of forums around that automatically post your ip address.
Question #2:

they tell them one of their users are abusing forums, probably violating some of the terms of service. it's up to the ISP to dump em or just give them a warning.
Question #3:

it's up to them, if you're lucky they're merciful

I'm sure he can get in trouble here for harassment, but the internet is a free medium to some extent, I don't know the legal ramifications of this, but I know that he can be removed from AT, I dunno what his ISP is going to do about his access though. I doubt they fully ban him. I would like to know the truth though, so if anyone knows, this would be interesting to find out about.

I know anandtech will do it. I'm not sure if your isp will do it.

Don't you sign a contract when you sign up for internet and stuff though? With all the free internet cd's out there though, I don't think it'll do much.

#1 why not? I personally know of no reason why they can not. It is their message board. I would assume it is in the ToS somwhere.

#2 that was beyond venting. Will they take it away? I doubt it. But we can always hope. It was more than one post. I count 6 so far. some with naughty words that I have never seen before.

#3 doubtful. you can bet he/she will get a good slap though.

#4 unasked question. ping ping ping!

Since this is a private forum, I believe they can do this. You're in their house, and therefore subject to their policies.

I believe the mods can do whatever they want when it comes to people like that, and yes,I think they can and do ban entire ISPs from access to this site if it suits the needs of the Anandtech community.

This moron is in serious need of attention from the authorities. The fastest way to get that is through co operation with the ISP and Anandtech. Then maybe this wanker can get the attention he/she craves so much.

BTW, I saw the sig in the locked threads. Based on what that juvenile, immature mango brain did, I think he had about zero chance of being a productive member of these forums, unless you consider being an AT punching bag productive. ;)

Can they do it? I hope so. Many contracts with the ISP's say that the user can't abuse the service. And this moron didn't just post one message, he made SEVERAL equally moronic threads. As to displaying the IP-address. Sure they can do it.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. They could, but probably it was some punk kid who posted it, their parents will be notified, and (if this was a 1st offense) the user will be placed on a probation of some type.

BTW, that IP address is Comcast Cable, looks like Northern Florida.

Why would his isp even care what a website has too say? They probably aren't going to take it away for viewing porn or swearing in a chat room either.

Question #1:
Can someone post your IP address without your consent on a VERY PUBLIC online message board? Yes, there is nothing private about your IP address.

Question #2:
Can a mod call up your ISP and get your internet access taken away for venting (if that's what I want to call it..) for only one post? Yes abusing a server / service is agenst most ISP's TOS. and the moderators are well within their rights to file a complaint. no matter how pissed off you are, you do not have the right to cercumvent a ban and abuse a server / service.

Question #3:
Will your ISP actually cancel your subscription for making one of these posts?I work for ATTbi, and if I get a call from a server administrator about some junkie fsking with servers, you bet your willie I will call the customer and give them a very stiff warning make a note in their file, and if I get another one, cram their account. yes ISP will cancel your account for violating your TOS agreement

I mean, isn't that a little harsh? I know if I posted something and just unleashed all annoyances and anger towards some people here and my internet access got revoked because of one post, I'd be pissed even further. I mean, why not just ban the IP address and be done with it? Do you really have to go through the ISP to remove the bastards internet access.no its not harsh at all, you act like an ass, you get treated like an ass, crapped on and wiped.

they generally wouldn't, but if someone comes to them complaining about the user, the isp will take action. they wan't to avoid all problems that this user may cause.
