Can Abit VP6 handle 256MB chips of ram?

As the title states, can the Abit VP6 handle 256mb dimms of ram? I went to crucials site (for that awesome crucial memory deal, and I found that the board only supports 128mb of ram. Is this true? I want to put a gig of ram on this board. LMK, thanks!
