Can a Western Digital External USB Drive Case be Easily Opened?

Has anyone done this? Or are there any instructions how to do so? I don't want to totally screw it up. I would like to replace the 80 GB 7200 RPM 2MB cache drive with a 250 GB 7200 RPM 8 MB cache drive. Maybe even a Seagate drive even though it's in the WD external case.

Too bad you didn't just buy an external drive case. Then you could change drives easily any time you want.

I have never opened a "canned" WD external, but I imagine it shouldn't be too difficult. However, opening the WDC drive will normally void the warranty. But so would changing the internaql drive - so that really is not an issue, is it?

what if it's controller isn't 48bit LBA? That would limit you to 137GB.

Why not just get a worthy case?

I've done it. It works fine. Just unscrew the case. It's like any other external drive case.
