LOL at first I thought FW = FatWallet but I'm guessing it's firewall

Yes a web site can block users from viewing the web site and forums with their .htaccess file.

Ah ok.

It could also be your PC's hosts file as well.

If your machine gets infected and starts pinging or portscanning a server, many have security packages like portsentry that will add your IP to a blocked list until the next time that the server is rebooted.

will only show if you are 207.75.150.x

so it would show that if the ip was banned?

nah it lists the allocated ip space and machines for our research group at work. If you are 207.75.150.x, youll get the list. If you are not, youll get access denied

I think what he meant was that you're linking directly to the denied webpage.....

It can be done with cookies, but that's unreliable. Cookies can be deleted or the browser set to not accept them at all. In matters of security it's better to do things server-side than client-side.

It doesn't matter though, any attempts at banning users is merely going to weed out the more clueless. With proxies and IP spoofing attempting to ban by IP is only going to stop some people, others will breeze through without missing a beat. Rejecting by cookies will stop others while many will know how to delete the cookies. Banning a username or email address is worthless as setting up a new account is a matter of seconds. Ultimately, if somebody wants access to a public site they'll get it.
