Can a socket "A" heat sink be used on an Athlon 64 X2 socket?

If you have the right mounting hardware it can be done. Socket A = same mounting hardward as socket 370 ie p3 intel's so unless the HSF you have comes w/ mounting hardware for am2 / 939 you'd be out of luck. off the top of my head the only HSF's I can think of that had universal mounting that included 939 & socket A were some thermalrights and they may have been updated to including am2 support at a later date.

except for maybe a few (as in one or two) cases you could get an adapter or find a way to make it work it most likely won't
