Can a Sempron run in a k7s5a Pro?

JEDI

Lifer
My k7vta3 (333mhz bus) died. The cpu is a sempron 2500.

my backup computer is a k7s5a (266mhz bus) with Duron 850mhz chip.

Is there a way to get the sempron working in the k7s5a?

Thx

It'll run (at 80% of its intended speed), but it'll be misidentified as some Athlon XP since the K7S5A BIOS doesn't know what a Sempron is.

hi, i bought also a sempron 2400+ for my k7s5a but it seems to need a 333 FSB...

is there a way to make it show higher than a 1600+ at the boot sequence ?? or simply did i lost my money ? i still have an XP 1700+... the only difference i see is the temperature of the sempron which is a lot cooler

This side of hacking the hardware (modifying the on-chip configuration bridges for a higher multiplier to counter the lower bus speed), no there isn't.

k7s5a says my sempron is a XP1900.

What's that equivalent to in sempron terms?

edit:
hacked the bios to get it there

i think i found it:

chip.....................Bus Speed
Athlon XP 1900+ 1.60 GHz

Sempron 2300+ 1.58 GHz
Sempron 2400+ 1.67 GHz

so on my k7s5a, i basically have a sempron 2350?

No, on your K7S5A, you have a Sempron 2100+ or so. In order to reach the 2500+ rating (1750mhz), you need to run at the full 333mhz FSB. At 266mhz FSB, you only get 1400mhz, which is exactly what an Athlon XP 1600+ is.

If 1750 is a Sempron 2500
1667 is Sempron 2400
1584 is Sempron 2300
1500 is Sempron 2200
1418 is Sempron 2100. But that assumes a 333mhz FSB still.

what do you mean by "1418mhz is Sempron 2100. But that assumes a 333mhz FSB"?

then what speed is the sempron if it's running at 1418mhz, but the fsb is only 266mhz?

and i'm running my fsb at 300mhz (hacked bios). 🙂

my k7s5a sees the sempron as an XP1900, which is 1.6ghz.

What does that make my Sempron at 300fsb?

Sempron 2500 is supposed to be run at 166 MHz, and is factory zet to a multiplier of 10.5x. Thus, it'll run at 10.5xWhatEverFrequency you set your board to run at.
There are no performance ratings for such doing, and whatever is being displayed is an educated guess at best.
