can a rheobus control a cathode?

Do you mean the switch part or the rheostats? I don't know if CC's can be used with dimmers. But the switches, yes, "sure, why not." 😉

I think it can but I dont think it's good for the cc. I ran a cc with a baybus and it worked both on 7v and 12v. The 7v was much dimmer than 12v but seemed to flicker over time.

My cold cathod will not work at 7v, only 12v. It would work with a dimmer but it's gonna be hard on the light. It would be to your advantage to hook it up to a toggle switch somehow.

12V toggle switches should be no problem if your switch meets the amperage requirements of the CC's transformer. I'm not sure what the typical amperage of those transformers is since I am not very familiar with them. My guess is that they use a lot of amperage.

With a rheobus you have to watch out for amperage too. The LM317T buses can only handle 1.5A@12V per channel. LM350's can handle 3A.

I think that it is not a great Idea... I avoided it even though I thought about hooking it up to my rheostat. 12volts means 12v in this case.IMHO
