Hi all,

I am going to purchase the Samsung Syncmaster 713N but my Pentium 3 800 MHz system with ATI Radeon 7200 graphics card is running win98se. Any potential problem with that? It has a 8 ms response time and I heard that this is good for games. The max resolution for this monitor is 1280 X 1024. I want my desktop to be this resolution but when I play games, I want a lower resolution of 800x600 or 640 x 480. Will this be possible?

Thanks a lot,

It will work fine. One thing is that only Windows XP supports ClearType, so you won't have the nice font smoothing that ClearType provides. Otherwise, it should work.

Still, if you're a gamer, you should not be on Windows 98SE anymore. New games much prefer Windows XP.

Thx for yor speedy reply. Is it possible to play games on 800x600 or 640x480. Will my video performance suffer a hit. I read that text is clear only on the native resolution of 1280x1024, but I am not so sure about games.

LCD screens always have a fixed amount of display pixels (quite obviously). Thus, other resolutions will use some form of interpolation, which won't look good. 640x480 on a 1280x1024 display will however be using some form of pixel doubling, which might look bearable - but much more blocky than on a CRT because the LCD won't blur the pixels like a CRT screen does.

Given your setup, my bet is that your games performance is CPU limited anyway, so that a higher resolution won't even harm the frame rate.
