It will work, but unless you're really good, it will be sloppy as hell.

Follow up with a stone to dress the edges.

The newest quick release cutting wheels are awesome compared to the old thick and thin ones.

MAKE SURE YOU WEAR EYE PROTECTION WITH CUTTING WHEELS.

I have had them embed in my cheek and chest when they shatter.

The latest quick release ones haven't shattered on me though.

Depending on what you are doing though a metal hole saw may be a better choice.

Dremels can cut into thin metal just fine and as others mentioned, they can cut into much thicker metals.

You used a Dremel and cutoff wheel to make a circle? A pretty darn good one, at that?

That's fairly impressive... I mean, it wouldn't be that hard to do, but would definitely take some planning and diligence.

Edit: On another note, I stumbled upon my original dremel receipt the other day!

I must have gotten it for my birthday. Receipt was on 4/25/94, just 1 day before my birthday.

I was turning 13. It has served me well over the last 15 years. :)

Yup, done with a Dremel and reinforced wheel. I used a standard CD to trace the circle. I simply made alot of small, straight line cuts following as close as possible the traced circle. It did take almost an hour to cut, but that's because I was being very careful. After finishing the cut, I used a sanding bit to get the rough edges out and then put the C-Strip on. I've replaced the black C-Strip in the pics. with some clear / transparent C-Strip. Looks much better.

Yes, I did the exact same thing. Remove all your components. Plan on cleaning it out afterwards. And prepare for sharp edges.

yup. Also as everyone has said : wear eye protection, don't force the dremel too hard onto the metal too quickly or you'll break more disks faster. Dont' freak out from the crazy sparking, loud whirring sound either ;)
