If your music is loud enough to travel through your closed window through my closed window on a busy intersection at a stoplight, then it is too loud.

I never get to sit beside any that are so considerate as to have their own windows rolled up. I assumed that the ones with the bass that rattles my fillings had spent so much on the speakers that they couldn't afford to keep up the air conditioning.

People should just be considerate and not blast music all the time. If you can hear the bass, its loud enough. No need to be an a$$hole and make sure everyones knows you're the sh1t with your 3000 stereo setup.

In California, the answer is definitely yes. You'll have to check the laws in your jurisdiction.

One word of caution -- If you're breaking local laws against your car stereo being too loud, you're probably doing irreversible damage to your hearing.

I'm a professional audio design engineer and I used to play music professionally. See my sig. :music:

if loud enough the subs will just shatter the windows if they are closed, it happened to a friend of mine he shattered his read hatch.

Good for him. I guess it's too much to hope he was impaled by a large chunk of glass... darn safety glass.

If that's not true I don't know what is.

I don't care what kind of music it is, I was simply relating a real-life experience. Every time it happened it was rap.

Depends on the state/local laws where you live.

I dont think most places have laws specifically to regulate the volume of a stero in a car, however I'm sure most places have some generic "disturbing the peace," type law.

Very interesting. Thanks for all the responses. I like my music very loud, but I do not want to do any damage to my hearing, OR get ticketed. I don't play it loud to be impressive, I do it because I like music, and I like it loud. :)

ps I do not have a crappy 89 accord with horrible speakers... :p The speakers in my Bravada sound wonderful for being stock, and I only have a modest 10" Infinity basslink Amp/subwoofer. Nothing that will shake the windows in your house, just enough to have a solid bassline and sound good. Trust me, I hate the BOOM BOOOOOOM squeek squeek of those stupid little cars too.

When will dumbasses understand loud bass != impressive. It just means you are fvcking retard that works at mickyDs that spends your whole months of pay on your subwoofer that barely fits your pos civic hatchback.

Not all people crank up the bass to "impress" others.

I'm all for it. Jack up the fine to $1500.00 while they're at it too ( the fine increases daily for "storage fees"...).

I'd settle for no fine, but you have to rip out and trash your player and speakers on the spot.

Whatever. As long as the noise stops.

It doesn't seem to be as strict here in my area but yea, stop that damn noise. They play the worst musac also, (yes musac, I don't consider rap as music) it's just irritating.

Ah, so that part where your driving arm is at the 12 position and you're looking around at everyone while driving down the street in the 'Bump Mobile' is just because you're looking at the environment and simulating the sounds of the wild.

I like it when people complain about people's stereos being too loud, but for some reason they don't mind those FVCKING HARLEY DAVIDSONS riding by! Those things should be outlawed! And let me tell you, those things are WAY louder than the typical stereos people complain about.

In Manhattan NYC, if you honk your horn, you can get ticketed. Loud music? Ticketed. Jay Walking? Ticketed. No first warning, you get a ticket right there. Why? Because NYC cops are underpaid and need the quota and the fact that people in NYC complain the most. :)

Harley's don't annoy me when they're just driving by. What annoys me are the idiots who needlessly crank them in a gas station parking lot.

I just put a new system in my Tacoma (I'll put pics up later consisting of my new 7" touchpanel for mp3s :D). I replaced my 6.5" components and have 1 10" sub in a ported box. At full volume, sure it can be heard about 50ft away. However, I think that's a really rude and foolish thing to do. If I do drive with my music above normal listening levels, I turn it down at a stop sign or when I come to a red light. I turn it down when I come into a resedential area, no matter the time of day. There are ways to be nice about this sort of things, just think about it.

Man, the other day, a guy pulled up next to me at a redlight. All of a sudden, I hear bass so loud my dash is rattling, stuff in my truck is vibrating. I'm like "WTF!?" I thought my sub was malfunctioning or something (it wasn't on at the time). I turn around to see this kid about my age (19) in a S10 with a wall of 12's. Damn that was annoying.

If you have the stuff, just be responsible.

yep. ive gotten pulled over for that before - i told him i had just gotten the system and was just testing it out. the officer then proceeded to ask me to turn it up so he could listen too. he smiled and then told me to keep it down. i obviously agreed. cool cop though....

(system - jbl bp 1200.1 and 1 resonant engineering 15" HC in a 5.5 (somewhere around there) cu ft ported box).

I love sounds. If the guy got the sounds to back it up, bump it. It's his alternator not mine. LOL! Iono I bump my sounds (1000-watts with two 12's) only loud enough for me to hear it. You can't hear it outside the car with the window's down. I rarely turn it up past 15 on my deck. Though for showing off in parking lots or at cruises it goes up to 30. :D
