Can a cop pull you over for spinning your tires at a light (not on purpose)

My tires always squeal when I go on the gas. Can a cop pull you over for that?

I was wondering at a light tonite after i did it. I looked in the rearview mirror and there was a cop flying down the road. I pulled over but he flew right past me. Thank god it wasn't me 🙂

So can they?

yeah

assuming your car isn't like a riced out civic or something just go to court and say you were learning how to drive stick or something

In other words, plead stupidity. 😛

I accidently peeled out in our VAN when I was in a parking lot, and the stupid cop pulled me over and started asking me dumb questions. He was implying I stole the car.

It's not like I did on purpose (nothing cooler than peeling out in a van right?) but since the car is so heavy it loses grip if you accelerate a bit fast.

Exhibition of speed is the offense I believe.

But if you are not coming close to exceeding the speed how does this apply? If you squeel, but continue on at the speed limit?

the first time that happened, the cop let me go.. i told him in wet weather i cant stop it.. its going to spin..

so started taking off on 2nd gear instead in wet conditions.

that was on the tercel, on teh focus, LAPD flashed their search lights on me as i approached the light, i was getting out of a mini mart and the wheels spun, but he didnt stop me or anything, i pulled over, he continued on his merry way.

i got one of those tickets,at age 18

Improper Acceleration While in Motion!

Lots of different terms, for the same thing,
unsafe start,
speed exhibition,
Improper start,
unnessecary {sp} noise,etc.etc.

also an excuse for the officer to go over everything, and,
If your being stupid, and the Police Officer is mad,you may have a broken,headlight/tailight etc...
😉

I think in Ann Arbor the violation is titled "Display of Speed." Just press on the gas a little more lightly.

I had a cop pull me over one time for spinning my tires (in a RWD car mind you) on ice pulling away from a stop sign. FOOL

ever think he was just doing his job and making sure you could handle your car on ice without causing an accident?

cops can generally pull you over for whatever they want.

pretty much. Its impossible NOT to break the law while driving. If a cop wanted to pull you over, they can find a reason.

What car do you have?

I was wondering that too. I have to believe that something isn't set right if you can't control your starts. Try moving your foot up higher on the peddle or something because your tires aren't going to last long doing that.
