I am getting all my parts and my vid card last along with my monitor. Was wondering if i can run windows and the internet fine without a vid card? Obviously no gaming. Would i be able to watch dvds or .avi movies?

all modern mobos has an integrated GPU on it... definitely you can play movies on it but not as wonderful as a video card can do.

What? No they don't, only motherboards with integrated graphics have GPU's on them, and that is by no means all modern motherboards.

NF4 SLI and Ultra sure as hell don't have integrated GPUs.
RD480 doesn't always have it (or maybe it just isn't exposed by asus in the a8r-mvp)

I don't know if I want to laugh or cry at the moment.

Your mother board must have integrated graphics to not need a card. Many motherboards do not have it. Do you have a vga connector on your board?

Yes, a computer can run without a videocard. But if you intend to interface it, you'll need some way to interact with the OS. Generally this is done by sitting in front of it and looking at the screen. Without a videocard (or integrated graphics) you can't do that.

However, if the computer is networked, you could interface with it remotely with Remote Desktop, or SSH, or VNC or something (assuming it is configured to allow such behavior in the first place).

You need to study a bit more before giving out advice. You're not doing anyone a favor by handing out incorrect information.
A very large number of motherboards DON'T have an intergrated GPU.

haha ok thx. Wow how stupid am i for forgetting about the mobo. Well looks like i cannot test out my new setup until the 7900's come out as i dont have a pci-e card...

wait a sec... i have a ancient pci card im guess that could work.

I don't think it will past post without a graphics adaptor of some sort.

I actually have run PCs all the way into windows with no graphics card (server with a PCI card that went bad, pulled it and tried to boot up)

Dead wrong, not all of them have integrated, mine doesn't and I got it in September.

You might have to customize which errors the mobo halts on though... I know I had to do this for my HL2 server, which has no keyboard, mouse, or monitor hooked up to it. It would halt on the no keyboard error until I told it not to. Sure beats having a keyboard behind my desk 🙂
