What? No they don't, only motherboards with integrated graphics have GPU's on them, and that is by no means all modern motherboards.

... integrated graphics is an Integrated GPU.. what do you think is the difference???

Dude, I am going to correct you.

All motherboards you choose to buy with onboard video, come with onboard video.
I have owned numerous modern motherboards and let me assure you none of them come with onboard video. (my choice)

K thats better. :p

I don't think it will past post without a graphics adaptor of some sort.

I actually have run PCs all the way into windows with no graphics card (server with a PCI card that went bad, pulled it and tried to boot up)

You might have to customize which errors the mobo halts on though... I know I had to do this for my HL2 server, which has no keyboard, mouse, or monitor hooked up to it. It would halt on the no keyboard error until I told it not to. Sure beats having a keyboard behind my desk :)
Of course you do... for a keyboard! A computer will not boot fully without a keyboard, unless - as you say - you can tell the BIOS to ignore the no keyboard error.

The BIOS does not care one iota whether a videocard is connected at all, and this goes for PCI, AGP, and PCI-E video as well as on-board video. You do not, I repeat, do not have to do anything special to get a PC to boot without a videocard of any kind.

To everyone: if you don't know, don't post! You're not helping anyone by giving out false information.

don't you need to set you BIOS to halt on no errors before you can do that?

Your mother board must have integrated graphics to not need a card. Many motherboards do not have it. Do you have a vga connector on your board?

Seconded. Frickin noob

Yes, a computer can run without a videocard. But if you intend to interface it, you'll need some way to interact with the OS. Generally this is done by sitting in front of it and looking at the screen. Without a videocard (or integrated graphics) you can't do that.

However, if the computer is networked, you could interface with it remotely with Remote Desktop, or SSH, or VNC or something (assuming it is configured to allow such behavior in the first place).

I dont think VNC would work because it is logging you into the console. Without a video card there is no way to render the picture. I dont know about remoate desktop but I think it will be the same.

Lots and lots of servers have no video cards as you telnet into the server to interface with it.

A computer can run without a video card.

The real question though is whether you can see it run.

It depends whether or not you installed the drivers for the legs surely?

A woman. The organs block most of the picture but it works, just make sure you use the male to female connectors.

Sure you can see it run, just take the cover off and look at the spinning fans, and blinking lights.

I wonder is someone could tell me where to plug my DVI cable into my DFI Nforce4 SLI-DR board please, I seem to be having trouble locating the plug.

Seriously, I wonder if you can even get the computer up and running without any visual interaction at the O/S level at this point other than a networ? I wonder if you could use a Linux live distribution, memorize the startup commands and get it all setup without a graphics card? Would the bios need a hack or workaround? Maybe we could attach an Altair to the serial port using widgets and gnomes. Hmmm. If my 7800GTX wasn't water cooled and I wasn't so lazy I would tinker a little. That would be slick. Hey baby, watch me install your O/S without turning on the screen .... does that turn you on? .... Uh ..... no? .... uh why not?

I personally visuallise the desktop in my head and go with it. Along with playing games on my imaginary X1900XTX crossfire setup. you should see what i see at 4000x2500 res. woooooooooooooww... absolutley nothing!!!!!!

By the way , a cheapo PCI card will work in windows, (i'm sure you can spend $5 from some computer repair store). you said you would be waiting for the 7900 cards. good luck as noone here knows when they will be available (at least they are not telling us)

Well, regarding Remote Desktop, I will find out soon because I'm RMAing my 9800XT and have no onboard video or old videocard for backup. I already have Remote Desktop configured and use it pretty often, so I'll find out.

I'm pretty sure it will work fine, because I don't think the videocard is use to render the desktop (though it will be used in Vista with the Aero Glass theme). I think it is done in software.

This is true for a desktop PC. 8 short beeps or one long and 8 short again.

There are many computers (industry PC's) that are built without video cards.
Many servers are built without video as well.

Unless you have an Asus motherboard, in which case it'll vocally tell you "System failed VGA test". :D
