Can a computer [new] fry a moniter?

I'm building a duron system, and everything was working fine... then as I was playing with overclocking, the moniter started to dim. It has a relatively low brightness now. To make matters worse, when you open or close a new window with a lot of white (or light color) on it, the screen stretches and contracts. Its insane.

We assumed it was a video card driver issue, but NO. Swapping the moniter back to my roomy's old machine showed the same problem! And it worked fine up until now!

Any ideas? Degaussing does nothing btw.

it's possible. I know somewhone who cought 2 monitors on fire by runing them at higher refresh rates than they were speced at.

This occurred before any refresh rates were tested (BIOS only).
