Actually, according to most Christians, the command to circumcise and much of Leviticus are "Old Covenant" laws which haven't applied since the time of Jesus.

No one is telling adults that they can't get a circumcision. The law would prevent parents from forcing an unnecessary surgical procedure that causes a permanent bodily change on their children without their consent.

I didn't need to bring up human sacrifice, I just mentioned it to exemplify what the blanket exemption from government regulation for religious rites would entail. I'm still wondering how far you'd go with your argument though, how about female circumcision, perhaps if it's only the labia and/or the clitoral hood, but not the clitoris itself? -Its really not an entirely unreasonable POINT, despite the fact that his example is so extreme. Would branding a newborn child with a hot iron so they could bear the mark of their parent's god be OK, even if it did not cause permanent physical damage nor did it impede the functioning of the skin?

Ultimately, I'd go for the "whatever" angle, and say that I don't really care too much about what others do with their own spawn so long as he doesn't rob me at gunpoint 16 years down the line or soak up an unspeakable amount of government aid.

Out of all the people in SF who circumcision their children, I doubt more than a fraction of them are Jewish. Furthermore, not all Jews condone the pratice, here's a couple speaking out against it (NSFW).
