Can a bad firmware upgrade kill my hardware?

So I flashed my netgear router with the latest firmware (or tried to ) and it lagged out during the middle of it. I closed out the web browser that was downloading it and restarted.

Now my router won't work ( the power light comes on and flashes orange and green ) and I can't figure out what is wrong with it. The reset button won't fix it or anything. I've tried unplugging it for 10 mins and all that bit.

Is it possible that I jacked up my router with a bad firmware upgrade? I would have figured that the reset button would have restored factory software. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same router, and flashed it successfully - but NOT using its wireless connection. That wouldn't make sense. I flashed it on line connected by Cat 5 cable to my wired Internet link. Have you tried that for a possible re-do? What does Netgear tell you? It does have a warranty.

You've poked the reset button with a pin or paperclip?

Hold it for a few seconds at least.

Nope. When you reset, it only resets the settings. Unfortunately, it doesn't reset the firmware. Sorry man. If ti's under the warantee you should be good. Contact negaear, they might be able to help (probably not though).

Their are many others having this problem with that router.
Netgear forum thread

The only thing you can try before RMA'ing is a 'hard' reboot:

Do a hard reset:

Shut down your computer
Shut off the modem
Reset the router by depressing the reset button for 15-30 seconds, WITHOUT letting go of the reset button, unplug the power from the router and count to 10, plug the power back into the router, then let go of the reset button. Wait until all the lights are normal and then boot up the modem, when those lights are normal boot up the computer.
If you still cant access the settings page after that, then I would agree the firmware upgrade went bad for your router and you will need a replacement.

Calling 1-888-Netgear will help you at that point.
