Can a backpack look professional?

I don't give a shit what others think it looks like.

Of course I work in a place where I wear jeans and sneakers every day and so does everyone else (except salesmen/women).

Plus I'm a system admin and interact with servers more than people on a normal day.

We're happy enough when our IT people keep the hardware and network running... and they shower sometimes too, but it's not a requirement.


I carry a backpack with my laptop in it; and I take it to meetings with the government customer. The laptop has a Hello Kitty skull and crossbones on it as well as an Umbrella logo. I do semiconductor research; they listen to me about device physics and semiconductor processing and stuff.

If you wear a backpack with a suit or a shirt/tie, you look like a tool. (Or you're still in college and going to an interview, which is the only time this is OK). If you don't have to wear a tie to work, then it's probably ok.
