Can a 2.4x DVD burner use 4X media?

Don't know if this is the right Forum to post this in but I was wondering if I buy some 4x DVD-R + media will I be able to use it in my 2.4X DVD burner?

It _should_ work fine, it'll just burn it slower than the media was spec'd out for.

Thanks, I figured it would be like CD-R/RW's just needed confirmation

You may need a firmware updated for the burner to recognize the higher rated media.

yep, that's what it says on the packaging of my 4x media..

Thanks for the advice I checked out the website of the manufacturer of my burner and sure enough there was a firmware upgrade.

stupid companies .. i bought 2x media that i thought was 4x. oh well...

yes it will but some have issues and need firmware update to do it. if you buy a spindel of 4x media it has a warning on it teling you what burners have known issues
